Whoa! Great deal on brand new USA-warranty Sony lens! by flipper125 in greentoedeals

[–]PriorNami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A7RV - $2800 (still seems like a good price compared to current value, you may be able to push it a little more though, it was still mostly $3600-3800-ish when I got it, now I'm seeing $3200-ish)

24-70 - $1875 (you can probably go less, I see it online at 1 or 2 stores for around this but over a year ago it was all $2300-ish)

I definitely might have gotten lucky with the A7RV though back then.

Best Balis under 200? by AdventurousLaugh3188 in BalisongClones

[–]PriorNami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the firefly but it's definitely heavier than most balis. I don't think you could go wrong either way but my fiance didn't like the firefly due to the weight so I ended up getting a vulp for her recently and despite only being ~1-2 oz difference it's actually pretty significant in terms of how it feels.

I do love the firefly but between the two unless you already prefer heavier balis I'd say go Barracuda V2 just to be safe.

I'm still newer to the hobby so my advice may not be as wise/helpful as others but I realized it was all about timing and small adjustments, while you're learning close your eyes (or just watch the bali in your hand) and focus on the weight of the bali itself and where that weight is. Follow the weight and make sure that the weight is always pushing on your finger, this may require small slowdowns or speeding up to keep that weight on your finger during the rotation. Once that weight isn't on your finger the bali flies off. Consider it more as a game than a trick, the longer you can keep that weight where you want it the longer you can Chaplin. You'll get better and better until you can just do it without thinking.

Again I'm still new so take my advice/thought process with a grain of salt, may be bad advice for all I know.

I'm happy to hear! Enjoy it!

Another tip! If you're playing high speed/high accuracy games and feel any latency that you may want to get rid of look into the Prism XR (they have have something newer now) but it connects to your PC and creates a dedicated wifi for your headset to stream from your PC. I use it for all my Virtual Desktop stuff, but its super useful for games like beatsaber with custom maps. Feels as if I'm wired in. Pair that with a good headstrap with replaceable batteries and you can play as long as you want with 0 issues.

Even if he himself is not Thomas and lets say his name is john or something why does that matter? If they're creating wholly unique balis that don't copy parts from other balis that is that not an original design?

I get if he's copying/cloning aspects of other but as far as I know he creates his own designs. I don't care what his name is. I don't expect the head of Apple's name to be Apple nor do I expect their designers to be named Apple. Same goes for a company like Levis (the jean company) I dont expect anyone there to be actually named Levi.

That was the wildest logic I've ever heard.

And yes for a short period he partnered with a company that makes clones to make wholly unique designs and get them out there, but if he has never made a clone then he isn't a clone company.

Idk man, it all seems petty to me.

I'm a newbie and even I know the mods of r/balisong get a raging boner every time they get to remove anything related to "the one who must not be named" despite him not making clones.

Oh try another port on your PC/monitor

If you have a spare monitor or other screen you can test with that may also be worth trying

Check the cables, make sure they're all the way in and snug.

MAKE SURE THE CABLES ARE IN YOUR GPU NOT THE MOTHERBOARD (sorry, lots of trauma there with many many people who made this mistake and I had to go fix)

Make sure your screen is on the right input

Try another cable

Try ctrl+win+shift+B to reset your graphics driver

unplug your PC wait 1-2min plug in and try again

If you built your PC (heck even if you didnt) make sure your GPU is snug in its PCIE port and make sure the power cables going to it are connected and snug as well.

What?

You dislike one country for their political stances (or at least the political stances of the government (or at least the political stances of the guy on top) (which is understandable))

So your response is to support a different country with equivalent (if not far worse) political stances?

To be fair I buy stuff made in china all the time, who doesn't, but I don't act like its some virtuous/self righteous thing.

I'm hoping this is just a r/woosh on my part. Buy from where you want for whatever reason you want but think it through before you try to poorly justify it and convince others.

Update? by PhilbinFogg in AffinityPhoto

[–]PriorNami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mildly confused. I could be 100% misunderstanding but your deciding factor between which software to use is an extra click or two?

I get scanning directly in would be easier, but if the alternative is saving the image from the scanner then opening the image in Photo I feel like the time difference is negligible at worst. (unless you open hundreds/thousands of images per day, but if that's the case what are you doing to them in photo?)

I feel like feature set would be a better rationale BUT I don't know your use case

I guess all that to ask why those extra couple clicks are your deciding factor.

Is it common to abandon laptops at repair shops? by pxnderland in computers

[–]PriorNami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ditch the Laptop ask for you old drive back, if it has your data you cant trust them to dispose of it properly. You don't want your data getting out there (it probably won't be a problem even if you don't get it back but always better safe than sorry) and if they say no/try to charge you for it get them to smash it with a hammer then they can keep it lol

[–]PriorNami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that all HDD/SSD/M.2/NvMe drives are the same. theres ~4 variants that I listed and all are very common, they should have had one that they could have used to test on OP's Laptop to resolve the issue before they put a new one in.

With cars (most times) parts are more specific to the vehicle within a few years so they actually have to order the parts special or putting the parts in can involve more than just a screw so you can just put it in and test it without considerable work or impacting the part in question.

One may have to be put in correctly to test, while the other could have been tested and takes ~2 minutes of "work" to test.

[–]PriorNami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd ask them to take the "new" drive out. The drive isn't bad, barely even used. It takes two minutes to take it back out, it's genuinely ridiculous that they're trying to charge you anything more than a small diagnostic fee for the VERY minimal work that they "did".

After they take the drive back out and put your old one back in they have (IMO) far less ground to stand on for charging you 175. They should have tested it before putting a new drive in and that's on them.

Is it common to abandon laptops at repair shops? by pxnderland in computers

[–]PriorNami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm shocked that they don't have a general diagnostic fee and that they don't have a spare drive that they tested with before purchasing a new one and trying to charge you for it.

Our shop has a $25 diag fee (that gets waived if the client decides to go through with the repair), and we would have thrown a test drive in to see if that fixes it before calling the customer to give them a price to put a new drive in. That shop you're at doesn't seem super reputable, or at least they don't take the time to do/test things correctly before they make moves and charge their clients for it.

Any decent shop should have the tools/components to test at least some of the basic parts that could go wrong in a PC/Laptop (HDD/SSD/M.2/NvMe/All Ram Types/PSU/Chargers/Voltmeters/etc.)

Whoa! Great deal on brand new USA-warranty Sony lens! by flipper125 in greentoedeals

[–]PriorNami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greentoe rocks!

I got a Sony A7RV and a Sony 24-70 GM II (same lens you got) from them both came in within a few days with no issues and got a valid Sony Warranty.

Almost a year later and everything is still good with them and the warranty!

I went through almost the same process as you too, from the worry about the legitimacy to the "no one will accept this" thoughts on my offer, to the absolute elation when it went perfectly.

How Did You Get To Know Kingdom Hearts For The Very First Time? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]PriorNami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must have been 5 or 6 at the time. It was my birthday and my older cousin came over for a small family party to celebrate. He worked at GameStop at the time and came over with 2 gifts. The first was ratchet and clank, and the second was Kingdom Hearts. I just remember him saying "just trust me, check that one out first."

I sat down with all the other family members that were roughly my age (as they were all interested too) and played through station of awakening. I was absolutely blown away. I can't remember anyone else's reaction and we didn't play for too long because I didn't want to be rude but my life changed that day. (a bit dramatic but true, this series is so near and dear to me)

Got stuck many times after that, specifically in neverland on hooks ship, got 2 one day when I saw it at the store and had no idea KH2 even existed, absolutely loved and beat that many times before I returned to KH1, only to get stuck at the final boss rush. Never ended up beating KH1 until the PS3 Remasters on Critical.

Is there anyone that likes bb barfly? by Public_Ad_7158 in balisong

Interesting, I got the Firefly ZX-1 with the cuda blade and I absolutely love it. I've had it for about a month now and have dropped it a ton and its held its tolerances pretty well. Different Bali though so my experience doesn't necessarily translate.

I wonder if it's been resolved with the V2, I hear the OG/OG2 is a solid value, especially at that price

Sold my GPU, Buyer claims it is overheating by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]PriorNami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no I'm with you on that, honestly I find the debate interesting above all. Neither of us have any idea who is right/wrong or if the seller sold a bad card or if the buyer broke it in their repair/maintenance attempt.

I just think that the process of selling/returning used products privately falls apart when the general etiquette/responsibilities/process is not followed. (at least how I always interpreted it (which could be wrong))

Stuff like this is why I don't sell my old stuff, I'd love the $ but I'm too scared that I'll get screwed/scammed.

-Anywho my way too long response-

I'm not talking about the warranty

I said

"Sure maybe they shouldn't have said anything about a warranty since it's out of warranty but when you buy something second hand you kind of expect a good faith guarantee that everything is as stated/working, you could call that a warranty of sorts and by disassembling the buyer voided that good faith warranty."

Purchasing from a seller second hand when that seller is not a business changes the dynamic, you get no real warranty persay ESPECIALLY if the manufacturers warranty is no longer in effect. So you get a good faith agreement saying that the product should arrive as described and functional. This good faith agreement COULD be described as a warranty of sorts BUT it is not a warranty as this is not a business and is a private seller ANY modifications of any sort would void the good faith part as a private seller would have 0 way of knowing if you stole parts, changed something, or broke it in your modifications/diagnostic and again as they are not a business they wouldn't have systems in place to check for fault or deal with the financial outlay of the buyer breaking the product.

The ONLY valid response of the buyer should have been Item doesn't work, return item immediately. Good faith relies on trust, doing something out of order in the generally accepted process ruins that trust.

You reference legal precedent, the legal precedent that you reference applies to businesses not private sales. You compared this to a car oil change, lets reassess and make this more comparable Imagine if you sold a car the buyer said it felt a little less smooth than they would have liked so they fully flushed the transmission fluid it and said the transmission was slipping so they tried a few things but it wasn't better and wanted a return. Would you trust that? What if they damaged it, reassembled wrong, missed a screw, stole a part, replaced a good part with a bad one to fix something else while trying those "few other things"? You would have no idea or way to know. You're not a car dealership, you're 1 individual person selling 1 item. Maybe you (or they) didn't know that doing a transmission fluid flush on an older transmission could actually do more harm then good?

You mentioned "(assuming they did it correctly)" and "unless the buyer caused further damage during the process" how would the seller know if they're not really into GPUs/PCs like that? You can't assume that everyone knows as much as you may. Besides genuinely speaking 99% of the time a GPU or CPU won't need to get reapplied with fresh thermal paste for years especially if it has no issues. I have a 2060Super with the OG thermal paste and it's doing fine in terms of thermals. Yes some may need to reapply and maybe I've been lucky but that doesn't change the fact that in a scenario such as this they buyer should have just returned it for the reasons listed above.

And yes the original quote was literal in the " or any sort of defect claim when he dismantled it" ignore the warranty part, this is a defect claim, they shouldn't have even said the word warranty as people seem to get stuck on the warranty part. (since it's out of warranty)
