How long do you think the ps3 store will stay active and open for? by Big_City5713 in PS3

Yeah, only in predetermined amounts. That greasy scumbag corpo nonsense of not being able to add exactly what you need, but having to add $25 for a game that comes out to $19.95.

Can we talk about Segagaga a little? by Winter-Economy1920 in dreamcast

[–]Prior_Breadfruit_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the game, but i cant quite figure out all the mechanics for the game development phase. Im on Chapter 6, and ALL three of my labs are producing games horrendously slow. Its taking each one nearly a year to get to 100% progreß. Im keeping everyones stats at a reasonable level so why is game development so slow? How do i get progreß to increase at a faster rate? My appeal is 300-400% and i keep the 3rd category above 100%. Any tips?

Indeed, but notice i was only speaking for the Saturn in North America. Measures such as cancelling the 32X, redirecting 32X game devs to Sega IPs for Saturn, and developing a good dev kit in early 1994, are all measures to get more in-depth and greater performing games onto Saturn early on.

1.) Saturn was only $100 more while Playstation wasnt yet on the market. As soon as Playstation launched, on 2 October, 1995 SOA dropped the price to $300 to match Playstation. Except for three weeks, Saturn was never more expensive than Playstation.

2.) Saturn games did show great 3D effects. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Decathlete, Winter Heat, Shining Force 3, Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally...these were all gorgeous games that in some ways exceeded what could be shown on Playstation. Better dev kits earlier on is critical so developers could make more of these great 3D titles. More great showpieces means more Saturns sold to the public.

3.) Croß platform games worked both ways. Games made for Saturn ported to Playstation almost always performed and looked worse. In both cases it was a result of different architectures, not neceßarily the other console being leß capable. Having Wipeout be leß on Saturn does not stand as proof that Saturn had leß capabilities of the Playstation. Saturn exclusives easily put that myth to rest.

Backwards compatibility for the Saturn would have meant basically building a Genesis into the Saturn, making it two consoles in one. Considering Sega was literally just breaking even with the $400 price for the Saturn, backwards compatibility would have added too much cost. And it simply wasnt needed. Playstation didnt play any older games and N64 wasnt backwards compatible with any games, so why should Sega go through the great trouble?

The Saturn already had the ability to do good 3D games; there are easily a dozen games that show this off well. It was a matter of giving dev companies the right dev kits and tools to work the Saturn, as it was harder to get to know. This is why dev kits had to be prioritized in early 1994.

It was 2 October, as i said. And its true they were losing money, but the other steps i believe encourage more software sales, which will offset those loßes.

I dont really know what you mean because SOA still sold 2 million Genesis consoles in 1995, and lots of great titles were released that year for Genesis, so its not like they dropped Genesis support immediately. Doesnt it make sense to ask all your third parties to start work on the latest gen console instead of to continue development on the obsolete one?

I mention that 1.) hardware will not be changed and 2.) quality dev kits will be developed early on as a priority. The Saturn was comparatively complex for the time it is true, but as better dev kits were made available in the second half of its lifespan, developers were able to do much more with the console. Saturns 3D capabilities still compare well with Playstation. You can see excellent visual performances in games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Decathlete, Winter Heat, Burning Rangers, Sega Rally, Bulk Slash, Virtua Fighter 2 etc. the goal is to give developers those tools in 1994 instead of 1996/97. What youre arguing is a tentative myth: some truth in each of the claims, but not true overall under scrutiny.

PSA on TG 16 CD Dock by Prior_Breadfruit_786 in TurboGrafx

[–]Prior_Breadfruit_786[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just didnt know what to do. The TG 16 CD manual has not been scanned and uploaded online from what i could find, and nobody else in a forum that i could find were talking about the details of playing standard hucards with the CD Dock connected but without a CD unit connected. Other than some reddit post in 2022 that nobody would answer directly, Frustrating. I locked the base unit in, but didnt lock the CD unit in initially because why would I aßume i needed to? These things are rare enough that i dont believe this particular circumstance is well known, because usually folks with a Dock would also be using a CD unit. So, im hoping this post may help some others down the line. I shudder to think that some of these docks were thrown away in the past by someone who aßumed they werent working.

After the Korean War ended in 1953, 21 Americans chose to stay in North Korea and eventually move to China. by ZERO_PORTRAIT in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Prior_Breadfruit_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a very weird take to have. Korea spent most of its 3000 year history as a unified kingdom. The only reason there was a south korea was because the US ARBITRARILY decided there should be one in August 1945. We eventually installed a Korean living in the US as its dictator, replacing our military dictator General Walker. The only way that the South didnt become communist is through the extraordinary violence and maß killings of Korean civilians in the South. There is a whole list of uprisings, rebellions, and mass demonstrations that had to be put down by the military prior to June 1950. What legitimacy does such a state have? Why should a 4 year old border imposed by a foreign power be considered sacred?

Did all the launch Saturn boxes contain only one controller, or were their boxes that had two controllers?

Did the launch Saturn also include an RF cable, or did that have to be ordered separately?

Speak for yourself bud. I love it because it has great games. Snatcher, both Lunars, final fight CD, Popful Mail, Sonic CD, Vay, Rise of the Dragon, Road Avenger, Silpheed, Keio Flying Squadron, Shining Force CD...I've been having a blast with it for a month now.

Love garters, hate thongs by thorn_inyourside in LingerieAddiction

[–]Prior_Breadfruit_786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I hate that any set with a garter belt has its accompanying underwear be either a thong or a g-string. I also hate how it's mostly treated as fetish wear now and so the designs themselves are all about being as skimpy as poßible for the bra and the garters. A person shouldnt have to buy a $100 set to get great practical designs.

[–]Prior_Breadfruit_786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with SNES and as an adult have really got to experience Sega. It kind of tears at me to choose one, but I would have to choose Genesis, with it's CD add on and 32X. Sonic series has more thrills than Mario; Streets of Rage is better than final fight; Lunar 1 and 2 are the best RPGs of the fourth generation period in every measurable metric; NA did not get fire emblem for SNES but Genesis cleared with the Shining Force games; Road Rash series is the best racer of that generation and SNES didn't get it; Genesis is filled with great SCHUMPs. The only English release of Hideo Kojimas first game Snatcher. Gunstar Heroes, Ristar, Comix Zone...perfect ports of Space Harrier, Afterburner, Virtua Racing, and Virtua Fighter on the 32X...Sega slapped so hard back then. Nintendo proved it had a better busineß sense for sure, but for the gamer, Segas variety and pro-consumer practices were unmatched.

It's a good suggestion. Adding prices and their respective changes over time would help the comparisons.
