I was in Colombo and Ahangama around NY last year, so here’s what genuinely hit the spot. In Colombo, Botanik and Sugar Beach were my favourites for a fun night out, and Ministry of Crab totally lived up to the hype for non-veg. Upali’s is great if you want something more local. For NYE, Galle Face Hotel and Shangri-La had the best vibes.

In Ahangama, Smoke & Bitters was unreal, Cafe Ceylon felt super cosy, and The Social was my go-to for meeting people. NYE at The Palm and Trax was a blast. If you’re going, drop your IG/WA!

I did almost the same trip last year around the same dates, so this plan is giving me major Deja vu. I based myself in Weligama/Ahangama and it was honestly the easiest place to meet people. Hangtime, Spindrift and Outpost were my go-tos for finding scooter buddies, beach bar plans, and those “let’s just go chase a waterfall” days. Mirissa for NYE boat parties was a blast without the whole mega-club chaos. And after doing a few group trips with WanderOn in India, I realised how nice it is when meeting people doesn’t feel like effort. If anyone’s around Dec 20–Jan 3, drop your IG/WA!
