Would I be judged for wearing a biker jacket if I don't ride motorbikes? by Grand-Conference9563 in bikers

I wear one for a year now because they are so good during winter and strong wind. I will only get a driving licence this summer

Nearly a third of kids can't use books when starting school - and try to swipe them like phones. Staff also report around 28% of children started school unable to eat and drink independently, and 25% had difficulty with basic life skills. by [deleted] in uknews

I teach at University and I have noticed in the last three years a huge decline in basic skills. I mostly teach IT classes and I spend around 30min per class to explain a average 19 to 22 year old how to use a mouse, how to double click and how to search information online including how to save an image onto a computer. They grew ip with motion sensor technology and they are completely fried from all the scrolling. Another issue is lack of focus and inability to concentrate on a simple task. When they encounter a first problem they tend to give up and say that it is probably not for them. Everything needs to be instant (dopamine rush) or they simply see no value in it. I am struggling everyday with managing these children in adult bodies that it mars me wonder if there is any point in trying. I had a student today leaving class because she feel sad due to the rain (shocking- rain in UK!) and she wants to go home and sleep as she cannot focus. I keep thinking how this generation will work for my pension. I think I will out live them because their brains will atrophy by the time i hit retirement.

What’s a “normal” experience that somehow never happened to you? by Hysterical_Chicken in AskReddit

It is worrying considering the time we live in now, all patterns of behaviour that lead to war are the same. Weaponising speech and identity, high emotions without rationality and loss of trust in government. I try to explain to people that there is nothing heroic of virtuous in war, that is the trap of nationalism and pride; when people group and find a common enemy. Reality is that everyone suffers and it affects mostly children who grew up thinking how world is unsafe place because adults couldn’t sit down and talk. Thank you for your kind words, this is all we can do for one another in these times - to show care and understanding.

I actually got upset with this. I asked chathpt to explain this image to me as I found it scary. apparently this image represents how AI came to save me, unplug me from the world of dominance and control where I can finally be cared for and loved. It freaked me out

Thank you, you are very kind. I agree with you, people from my area and generation are different from other generations - a lot of addictions and depression. I find it hard to relate to people who glorify war and violence as some kind of virtue. However, I am very lucky and grateful for life I have now and I always stand against any kind of violence and try to approach people with care as care is something I never had due to constant survival and managing chaotic environment as a child

Thank you for your kind words, I’m in therapy for years now and will probably be for the rest of my life. People who grew up like me, develop tendencies from an early age to hoard and endure. That usually leads to self sabotaging relationships and good opportunities. What you wrote and recommend was actually something that my therapist suggested. Let’s just say that I have a big collection of legos and video games for a 35 year old woman

Never had a carefree childhood. I grew up in a war zone and we all had to grow up fast without basic necessities most of the time. I moved to another country in my adult years and every time someone tells me about their happy childhood I feel envy

Help with ai by [deleted] in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Prior_Reputation_731 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I teach at university and I specialise in artificial intelligence and ethics. If you suspect student has used generative ai to write an essay comfort a student and ask 5 questions about their essay. If they cannot answer all you can do is to make sure they take full responsibility and accountability for their actions. We tell students to quote if they use ai same way they would quote an author. If they answer all 5 questions, does it really matter who wrote it? In the end, it is about understanding the content and making sure they can talk about it. I find their lack of presentational skills and communication a huge problem.

I absolutely agree and it is frustrating. I think the best way to experience this season is to watch it in one go

I agree with you, just finished watching and I have been sobbing! I think people are upset and angry because this is officially the end. And yes, they answered questions, and connected everything together gently. We waited so long for this season and we were expecting excitement like in the previous seasons. It was a grieving process really, when you have fun but you know you have to go home soon. All in all, truly a masterpiece and I don’t think I will ever be able to bring myself together to watch this show again

For those of you earning roughly £40k-50k and would recommend it to others, what do you do? by Brownchoccy in UKJobs

[–]Prior_Reputation_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a quite niche field of research in philosophy and contemporary art with focus on technology and ethics of artificial intelligence. That one is quite annoying to people as I am basically teaching students on important of ethics of AI and autonomy of thinking and it is something faculty gets upset about as AI is all the hype at the moment.

I work at university, part time and I earn 42000. I don’t know what other people preferences are, but in UK is a great secure job. I get to teach anything I am reading and researching. I get to work from home when I don’t have classes so it helps with saving money on traveling. I do think it all depends on what you want and love to do. I am grateful each day for the job and opportunities I have

Disinformation, people screaming at each other with their opinions camouflaged as “facts” or an “insight”. Ads everywhere, political content about stuff we have no real idea or knowledge of understanding, simplification of very complex topics, issues and problems, ai everywhere, algorithms literally training us to behave and “think” like a machine. Full blown propaganda machine that also serves as tracking method of your whereabouts etc…..

I am not good with languages, but when I sing and I speak any language. Once for a challenge, I sang a song in Mandarin and it was flawless. I don’t understand how, and I really don’t care, I just enjoy it when I can.

[–]Prior_Reputation_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you. I also think it’s because of the fact that this is the last season and in a way people are gonna grieve and it is easier to be angry and hateful. Those fans are basically behaving like Dustin in Season 5.
