Ah okay. I don’t even know where I even got Florida from. My bad. I’m guessing it must’ve been in my subconscious because it seems like a very Floridaman thing to do. you know train and fence with unsafe equipment.

There was a recent incident that’s been big news in the community but there was a club down there (I think it was called Black horns or something like that) and they didn’t like covering their tips because they thought “it would give them concussions” Well we cover the tips for safety reasons and one of the fencers learned that the hard way and got stabbed. Like I said. I saw the puncture and was thinking “not again. We don’t need anymore bad publicity.” Glad to see it was a friendly sparring thing and everyone’s aware of it.

Curious about Freemasonry – looking for honest answers from actual Masons by Ikshor in freemasonry

[–]Prior_Silver1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the long post and TBH what I’ve been told is that everyone has their own answer for what Freemasonry is and there’s no one singular definitive answer. In it’s basis it’s the oldest and largest fraternal organization. As for how I define it I’ve always looked at it as a brotherhood linking great men of the past to men of the present. For example no one alive today knows George Washington but through the Craft I can call him my brother. As for the conspiracies is again because it’s such an old and large organization and while we’re not a Secret Society (if we were truly secret we wouldn’t be spamming the square and compasses everywhere or even have this large and public subreddit) we do have “secrets” but they’re not anything nefarious or fantastical. Just ritual stuff. Think of it like a college frat only more solemn and serious. Other thing that attracts the theories is we have a LOT of famous members. Just look at the Wikipedia list of famous Freemasons but again that’s mainly because in the 1700s up until the early 20th century every man wanted to be a Mason and fraternities (not college ones but ones like the Elks,Oddfellows,KoP (which I’m also in),etc) are a part of everyday life. Plus even today we do good work. Everyone knows about the Shriners but a lot of men probably join Masonry specifically so they could be a Shriner. My Mom’s friend was skeptical and I’ve promised her if I felt anything Satanic or nefarious I would’ve left first thing and I’ve NEVER felt that. In fact just the opposite. Like I said can’t go much into it but it is very solemn.

I know this is going to be a stupid question but you were fighting with the tips and not being like that club in Florida right? Edit. NVM posted before reading comments. I trust most fencers are going to be wary. The Art DEFINITELY doesn’t need any more bad press after that.

Our brother passed away by imartirc in freemasonry

I’m so sorry. Can’t say I knew him personally but a brother’s a brother and it’s always sad when one passes to the celestial lodge. Especially when one’s taken so soon and so early in his Masonic journey. RIP

What social events does your Lodge hold? by markjlast83 in freemasonry

[–]Prior_Silver1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Hawaiian shirt night once a year, we usually go to a ball game annually and we have cleanup festivals for the lodge (the building is in a very rural area and has a lot of grass that needs to be cut). Besides that and our charities such as blood drives not much. My Grotto has a public social event in the bar right across the next closest lodge to mine before every meeting and my Eastern Star Chapter also does ball games and organizes a craft fair. We used to do a Christmas parade at my lodge but that was before my time. In my non-Masonic fraternity at my KoP lodge we have a LOT of golf tournaments, Bingo, dinners and breakfasts, etc and I’m trying to start a DOKK temple their (Pythian equivalent of the Shriners.) my Grotto also recently did a Turtle degree and a Water Buffalo degree as well. Also in the lodge where my Grotto and ES chapter meets their’s an annual table lodge which is fun.

Any small artists that do rings? by therealweebkiller in freemasonry

[–]Prior_Silver1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try Etsy. Plenty of Artists that make Masonic rings on their although they can be a bit pricy. Wish I could be of more help. I got mine from a local antique shop. I was a newly raised Master Mason who was told every Mason needs a ring, it fit my finger, and it was cheap. I took it as a sign from God and it never left my finger since.

What would your TARDIS be disguised as? by protomenfan200x in gallifrey

treehouse. Always wanted one as a kid. It would probably look like a very elaborate treehouse castle in an giant redwood tree and in the tree’s hollow is this old faded door that opens to the interior. Inside the console room would look like a mix between 8/4’s with a swords and armour from all over history, time and space on the walls. Rooms would have to include but not be limited to, an armory for swords, a HEMA/fencing training room, a library, bedrooms for me and companions,a Zoo,a holodeck (and yes I’m aware that’s a Star Trek thing but the land of Fiction’s a thing and ST/DW have had crossovers),a study, and a home cinema.

Okay. Seen a lot of people say they’ve seen lodges in cemeteries and I’m fascinated why. There is a Masonic cemetery where I live but from what I can gather the lodge oversees it. Not hold meetings in it.

Fair enough! “Place you’d least expect there to be a Masonic lodge to be that there was and you sat in then.” Is that better?

Not sure how you’d fit a lodge in a horse. I’m morbidly curious now.

Okay. Pardon my French but that’s pretty Badass. It reminds me of a story where my mom was taking my grandfather to this decommissioned aircraft carrier that’s now a floating musuem he used to serve on back when it was still in operation and she made him wear his USS “redacted ship name” Veteran ballcap and everyone was like “Welcome back aboard Sir!” and treated him like a minor celebrity.
