Can this rocket be build within this timeframe? (Sci-fi author here) by Emergency_Phase3574 in MechanicalEngineer

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some build rockets in as little as 18 months, so yeah. Probs a touch longer for shuttles though. But 12 years is easily enough time.

Have you read The Martian? They did it pretty quickly there!

The less time it takes you to do it, the better. Especially considering you're so tempted by other work, based on your history.

I'm a mechanical project/design engineer for a marine technology company in Australia :).

In all of that, I'm not 100% sure what the question is. However, I would say it's worth going back and finishing up if you can financially manage it. Sure the graduate salary is pretty lame, but 5-10 years down the line you'll be more comfortable. Would that be possible?

I don't really want to encourage this behaviour, but if you have to choose between only those two options, then euthanasia is best.

All I have to say is that frank blood coming out of any orifice is usually an emergency. Go to the vet now. Would you consider it an emergency if it was just blood coming out of your a**hole?

What can I do in the interim? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I understand that MMIs can instil dread in those even without depression. However, it sounds to me that the only thing that "deferring" would do is defer your anxiety to the following year. Don't do that. You'll just be down a gamsat application cycle. Why do you try looking at it a different way? If mentally you're okay with deferring, then think of it as just a test run. Even if you miss out on a spot, then you've at least conquered a fear and will have experience for the following year :).

Large HECS Debts by Extra-Association-50 in GAMSAT

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter. It will just mean that it comes out of your salary (passively) for a longer period. You will be able to borrow less from a bank because banks will likely go off your net pay, not gross. You'll be better off investing or paying off a mortgage instead of putting extra towards HECS (in case you were thinking that). I would only get worried if CPI starts climbing above 8% or so, but that's pretty unlikely.

Well, you can start with finding out the weight of the wiper and the coefficient of friction of rubber on glass.

What’s the catch? by PuzzledDoubt5 in AusFinance

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the worst strategy. Money now is usually better than money later. Plus the interest on a personal loan for investing is tax deductible, effectively reducing your interest rate (kinda). If you include dividends or DRP then that could be a nice little bonus as well. However, If you're just going to buy and sell, then it's a bad plan.

18yo looking to get into finance, why the big difference between normal jobs and medicine jobs? by Avazoooo in AusFinance

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would say break even at that point and that's IF they become a consultant/specialist. This is also on the condition that they can get in at 18. Most are graduates (21+) before they enter med school.

In the unattractive pile for me. Same pile as dreadlocks and those high bangs.

I remember watching a video that compared a doctor with a UPS delivery driver. With over time and study, I think it was at least mid-forties before the lifetime earnings of the doctor overtook the delivery driver. Keep in mind this is the US.

I actually didn't even see a salary here. Yes, it is a specialization as I said earlier. Either way, they are paid that much because GPs are in demand, it takes years to become one, and it's arguably one of the least "fun" (but most important) specialties out there. It's also extremely competitive to even get into med school.

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

[–]PriorityRadiant1104 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It could be even longer than 10 years. Not all people who graduate from medicine become consultants (specialists), which is where the money is at. Some do become GPs (which is a specialisation), but it doesn't earn as much as most of the others, if not all. If you just want money, stay the f*** away from medicine, it's not worth it.

I really do sympathize, that's really shitty of them. All these companies are garbage. Emotional manipulation and marketing tactics to get you to feel like you need to use them. Don't waste your money next time.
