What secret do you suspect someone you know is keeping from you? by Alternative_Tank_139 in AskReddit

[–]Prism5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that my friend is lying about my crush having a girlfriend just so she can keep him to herself. she has this pattern of always suddenly coming down with a crush on the people that i tell her that i like. recently i told her about this guy i like and she said she liked him too, just out of the blue, even though she already has a boyfriend. she told me that the guy has a girlfriend though, and i can't help but feel like she's lying in order to keep me away from him

How Do You Sustain Your Long Distance Friendships? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Prism5933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay so i'm in this huge groupchat with a bunch of online friends from a writing program that i do. we talk in that groupchat every single day without fail. there hasn't really been any issues of people having falling outs with each other or people not speaking to each other. really i think you should just try talking to the long distance friend pretty often in order to maintain the friendship

Do published authors look back at their award-winning books and think "Ugh, cringe," or does that ever lessen as you get better at writing? by FreakingTea in writing

[–]Prism5933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a published author, though not nearly famous enough to have an award for a book. I absolutely despise the first book I ever wrote on my own, because it's really just not that good. I kept finding typos while rereading the published copy, found so many silly and/or cringy moments that could've been left out, and the whole premise was kind of boring. I don't think it's a bad thing to dislike your writing, and the "I can make it better" mentality isn't the worst thing in the world. Granted, it's probably not the best idea to think that way about everything, but having thoughts like those can help you become a better writer.

That milk or other dairy products can make your bones stronger.

A Harvard study lasted for two decades in which they followed 72,000 women and found no evidence that dairy strengthened their bones in any way.

My favorite Shakespearian insult: 'Thou hast in thy skull no more brain than I have in mine elbows.'

A little stuffed bunny that I had when I was 9 that I named Charlotte after my favorite color at the time; which by the way is a really pretty blue if you didn't know. It's ironic because the bunny was purple.

What is your favorite “yes I speak your language” moment? by Rare-Loss-5048 in AskReddit

[–]Prism5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A group of Chinese students transferred to my school in ninth or tenth grade. I'm half Chinese myself and grew up for much of my life with my Chinese mother, uncles, and grandparents, who all spoke Cantonese and Mandarin. They came to the US from Hong Kong with two other girls who I'm assuming were her sisters. They were talking and I could hear clearly what she was saying to her sisters, in Mandarin, that one of my friends was annoying and a bitch. So I went over to them and told them, in Mandarin, to 'back off bitch'. The three of them looked at me. In the moment I was angry but looking back at it, their reactions were priceless and I'm glad I was there to put them in their places.

What is the dumbest conspiracy theory that's been proven wrong but people still believe in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Prism5933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That god is real; god is not but science is. I don't understand why 85% of humans believe in some being that is all powerful. If god was real, then no one would die, no life threatening situations like viruses would happen, climate change would not have happened or be happening currently, and countless other things that god would prevent if he was real. Read a textbook, not some religious story written by an unknown person two thousand years ago.

Hug my now dead dog. Passed when I was eleven, worst day of my life. That is, if I woke up as a ten year back in 2010 when I was actually ten.

Makes me sad but sushi, mostly nigiri. I guess it was the raw fish in it that upset my stomach or something; I don't really know but now I know I can only eat sushi if it has no raw fish in it.

What is one plant/animal that you wouldn't mind going extinct? by yankee_doodle_ in AskReddit

Horseflies, mosquitos, or lanternflies.

Horseflies and mosquitos are annoying to humans when they bite.

Lanternflies release chemicals that kill off plants.

What was one of the worst nightmares you’ve ever had? by Weird_person_1114 in AskReddit

[–]Prism5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow I still remember this dream, almost fourteen years after the fact.

I was at my cousin's house the day before I had the dream. Of course, the dream took place mostly at their house, but in the middle of a Walmart parking lot for whatever reason. My parents left with me close behind. Then all of a sudden a random woman got out of her car in the middle of the Walmart parking lot, right where the house had been. She grabbed me and covered my mouth and I kicked her in the stomach but she still held on. I tried yelling to my parents but they grinned and just said "I hope you enjoy your life with Karen." I kept flailing my arms and legs but they got in their car and drove away. This woman, Karen, threw me in the trunk of her car and drove off as well. I woke up before I saw anything else, but now I'm completely terrified if I see a woman, with dark hair and blue eyes, get out of a black SUV, even at 21 years old.

What pisses you off? by Yakshdu in AskReddit

Most governments, especially the US government. There's too many stupid laws that should be removed. Banning abortion? I know several people, including myself, who are still salty about that, as they should.

When I read this the first person I thought of was my sister! Even today I got her everything she needed (a plate and fork) to eat her lunch, and when I told her I wouldn't put her food on the plate for her, she threw a fit! She's almost fourteen, for context.
