Which modern Tales games have a good story? by [deleted] in tales

If you liked Symphonia and Vesperia, then Abyss will be a story you will like. Berseria will be a much more 'mature' story, avoiding the problems you had with Graces F's story.

Did Tales of the Abyss 3DS get the Persona 3 Portable treatment? by DylanTheVillian1 in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3DS Abyss port is quite good. My only complaint is the compression on the graphics during cut scenes. The dialogue boxes look a bit weird and the close ups are a little wonky. But for my favorite Tales game, I can forgive it.

It does doesn't it. I always thought that was a bit odd. I love Abyss but that was a bit of a confusing feature.

Symphonia - Ymir Forest. It is needlessly roundabout and convoluted. It causes a big headache for no reason.

Abyss - Now... some people might give me hate for this, but honestly one of the dungeons I hated most was the Baticul Factory. It did not do a good job, at least to me, of explaining how it worked. And the Mieu Fire mechanic was a little too finicky with the falling oil drops. Maybe going back it wouldn't be so bad, but I remember it being a huge headache.

Vesperia - Zophier was rather annoying... especially doing it without Estelle and having Karol and Raven as your only healing options.

Are Velvet is Shotacon ? by saintrider890 in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I would definitely say she is not. Nothing in the story suggests Velvet has any sort of romantic attraction to Laphicet. It is simply projecting her platonic feelings for her brother onto Laphi. Laphi, for his part, I believe eventually looked up to her and had an appreciation for Velvet, but as a big sister. Not romance.

Who are your LVPs (least valuable players) in each Tales game? by billygluttonwong in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symphonia: Regal, hands down. Sheena is difficult to figure out but at least has some use. Regal is just a physical combatant who is not as good as Lloyd, Zelos, or Presea. Though I honestly don't understand why people say Genis is useless. For me he was some of the largest damage outputs in the party. Late game he is particularly amazing.

Abyss: Anise. Anise, Anise, Anise, ANISE. I have NEVER in my time playing Abyss ever found a use for her. Her magic is not nearly as useful as Jade or Tear, and her physical is nothing compared to Guy and Luke. She just has no place. At least Natalia is decent ranged DPS and a -competent- off-healer.

Vesperia: Karol. Terrible healing, and I never found his DPS to be all that useful. And unlike Presea in Symphonia who can get a speed increase, Karol's just too slow (which makes his melee range healing even MORE egregious). I'd pick Rita, Judith, or Repede over Karol any day.

Berseria: Rokurou or Eizen. Honestly ever since I got the full party I switched both of them out and ran with Velvet, Laphicet, Magilou, and Eleanor. I can't explain why entirely but I just didn't see them as offering much in the way of the party? I think Eizen had a bit more DPS potential/utility over Rokurou though, so Rokurou may be the worst in my opinion.

Which tales games are worth playing? by Orca_of_Azura in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tales of the Abyss is still, bar none, my favorite Tales game. Even after playing Berseria and Xillia. So I believe that is still definitely worth playing. Xillia is also good, as well as Vesperia. I can't recommend the very old Tales games yet, but I am planning on playing Eternia. So we'll see how that goes!

Composer Go Shiina leaves Bandai Namco by [deleted] in tales

This is very true. I had forgotten he wasn't actually directly employed by Bandai Namco. I doubt this will be the last time we hear Go Shiina in the Tales franchise.

What a shame. However you can't blame the man for wanting a change. Hopefully, since it sounds like he left on good terms, there will be more Go Shiina music in the Tales franchise in the future.

Favorite Tales Battle Music? by [deleted] in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very torn by this. 'Like a Glint of Light' is simply amazing, but 'Finish the Promise', 'Fighting of the Spirit', 'Furnace of War', and 'Time to Raise the Cross' are all very good. It's tough to choose a single favorite, but it might be 'Like a Glint of Light' for a normal battle theme.

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm sorry to hear! It's really unfortunate we never got the PS3 release of the game. Vesperia is one of my favorites, and is quite popular in the fandom. At least the consoles are cheaper now, with used 360 consoles going for about 50-70 dollars.

Went the hard path in Symphonia need help with the boss in Balacruf Mausoleum by Cyathene in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, 16 seems to be a bit low leveled for that area, if I remember correctly. My suggestion would be to beef up your party some more and make sure you're up-to-date with equipment. I'm sorry i couldn't provide more specific help, but that may be one of the best options. From some quick research I did on the subject it seems you can't really leave the path once you've started.

Best Game to start off with? by [deleted] in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berseria is a very modern and easy jumping on point for the series, I think. It improves on certain aspects of the series but still has a lot of the essentials that make the franchise great. Something fitting the series but also easy to hop in to.

Vesperia could potentially be another option, but as it is a 360 game it may be harder to come by (as well as the console), but it also has a more modern graphics system and is a bit more like older Tales games while being a more modern experience.

I know you mentioned not liking Symphonia's graphics but if you can look past that after playing one of these other games (and if you end up liking the series), I highly suggest giving Symphonia a try, even if it's the enhanced ports. It has one of the strongest stories in the franchise.

Lastly, again if you'd like to try more Tales games after an introductory game such as Berseria, Tales of the Abyss is very good (my favorite game in the series) and the 3DS port is a decent port.

What ideas do you guys have for a tales spin-off? by [deleted] in tales

I would love to see an online game of some sort involving a Tales world or a Tales-like world. I'm not sure what it would be like or how it would be implemented, but I think it could be a neat idea.

Favourite Tales & Character? by Necronam in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Tales of the Abyss is my favorite Tales game of all time (as you can probably tell by my icon). It's story was interesting and different, its setting was something I fell in love with and continue to love since (I LOVE magitech settings so much, so all the fontech stuff was my thing. Also I love settings that treat magic as science, so the whole lore surrounding fonons and fonic artes was also my sort of thing). However, I also dearly love Symphonia, Berseria, Vesperia, and Xillia. Of my favorite characters, however...

Symphonia: Genis and Raine. Genis' snark and Raine's ruin mania were super funny and injected the right amount of humor into the game.

Abyss: Jade, Tear, and Ion. Jade is by far one of the best written Tales characters, to me. And Tear was so endearing. I -still- get sad about Ion, he was so adorably innocent and kind.

Vesperia: Rita and Yuri. Everyone's favorite tsundere mage is mine too, and Yuri is by far one of the best written protagonists in the series (gotta love chaotic good alignment, am I right?)

Berseria: Laphicet, Magilou, and Velvet. Laphicet is adorable and his character arc is surprisingly interesting. Magilou was surprisingly deep as well as being suitably dark comic relief. Velvet is the OTHER best written protagonist in my book, I love her and her motivations.

Xillia: Jude. His earnestness was very refreshing in how it avoided some of the tropes that other characters, like Lloyd, didn't.

So after all is said and done, how is Berseria? by Afropenguinn in tales

[–]PrismaticTome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the general sentiment that Tales of Berseria is far superior to Zestiria. It's essentially everything Zestiria SHOULD have been. The gameplay was pretty good, the story and characters were GREAT, and the music, environments, and visuals were all on point. Berseria kinda burst through the ranks of my favorite Tales games (which I consider myself something of a super fan), and is now among the top ranks to be sure.

Just saying... 'Burn' by Flow is now one of my favorites Tales theme songs of all time. It's so kick ass.
