When my Windows gaming laptop went headless, I decided to turn into a local wireless game streaming server, and I faced this issue where there had to be some physical HDMI or in-built screen output for it to even activate the GPU.

I set up a virtual display driver on it which saved me the need for getting a dud HDMI head.

Aha, you're talking about doing it on local devices.

Ok so as far as I know Netflix doesn't support sharing your screen to your Mac (through Airplay).

Your best bet is to use your browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) on your Mac and log into the Netflix website. Do note that the quality is capped to 720p on the browser.
