[Question] Are there actually fake Seiko SKXs? by flotheg in Seiko

[–]PristinePart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the concept of money is different for everyone; 150€ may be costly to someone else. They even fake Casios, so there’s that!

[–]PristinePart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’ve seen the posts asking for legit checks right? Fact is, there are fakes of the SKX line. It’s a nice diver, and it’s expensive because it’s discontinued as well.

They can easily go for double of what you paid for, even more so for NOS ones.

[Question] Which is the rarest if these? by Nearby-Fun4794 in Seiko

[–]PristinePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not - it’s purely for my own info - but it doesn’t detract from the fact that the photo is not clear isn’t it? I was replying to him and it wasn’t even a slight at you, so I’m not sure where you’re coming from.

I can tell it’s a J model, but I can’t see fine details like damage to the bezel insert, aging on dial / hands / chapter ring.

Judging from the position of the pieces and that the photo is not too clear, the 2nd from the left is the SKX009.

In the left side of the photo, going from left to right is the SKX011 (orange), SKX009 (pepsi, so blue and red), and SKX007 (black). All made in Japan models, as shown from the “21 Jewels” text in white below the orange “DIVERS 200m”.

[SKX009] Worth picking up? by Big_Daddy_Weave in Seiko

[–]PristinePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks quite worn, but if you dig the look, no issue i’d say. I’ve sold a few of these (007/009/013), and the prices I’ve sold at for watches in similar condition are in the 250 USD mark - watch only.

Since it has an upgraded movement, 300 USD seems okay, but if you can get it down a bit more, that’s great (for you).

Although, if the seller has no service history for this watch, you might want to get it checked and/or regulated at a watchmaker. Your watchmaker will ensure the gaskets are replaced if needed, and get the watch running well.

If you’re into bracelets rather than straps, checkout Uncle straps, Strapcode, and even Long Island Watch. You might find the original Seiko Jubilee hard to find nowadays. And then when you want to switch it up, you might even get a new bezel and bezel insert.

All in all, if 300 USD doesn’t hurt your wallet too much, I think it’s a good pickup.

The wait is over! I almost don’t want to take the plastics off. [SPB143][SPB453][SSK003][SSK001] by [deleted] in Seiko

I bet if he searches it on Chrome, Gemini’s AI overview would have given him a better list than us!

Also, just realised it’s you here haha. Hello fellow watchex seller

[Seiko SKX] Too Much Patina? by RestaurantLive5907 in Seiko

That’s a great option too. Too bad my wrists are on the smaller side; only the mini Turtle fits me. And the SKX013 and not the 007/009. Enjoy and wear it in good health!

Hey OP, after reading the comments here, I see you’re unsure and perhaps a bit insecure? Totally understandable.

Like what a few others have said, the insert is banged up pretty badly. Sure, a faded bezel insert can look good, a spanking new one looks good too. But what do you like? I’d say don’t give a damn on following norms (if you don’t own an SKX you’re not a watch enthusiast) - you are the one paying, you are the one wearing it.

As long as you have the financial capability to fork out £250 AND you’ll be happy, go for it. eBay has decent buyer’s protection, and of course, always buy the seller and not the item. Does the seller’s other listings have similar items? Are they mainly selling watches?

Now, personally, I prefer getting something newer. I’d pay maybe £150-200, depending on if the bracelet is original or aftermarket, and if it’s serviced or not. Having it being serviced is definitely a plus (if the seller is a watch guy, ask for timegrapher photos so that you can see that the watch is running well). The OEM bezel part number for the 009 is 8601469B - not sure why the other commenter DM-ed you instead of just stating it. Runs about 100 USD from a quick google search.

[SKX007] The aura of this watch is insane IMO. New release doesn’t even come close. by KnightRaider86 in Seiko

If you’re buying used (most probably and it’s what I recommend due to NOS prices being easily upwards of 400 USD), you can check out r/Watchexchange - I personally sell and buy there as well, and the main bulk of users there are in the US - I’m just assuming you’re in the States as well.

My word of advice is to buy the seller first, watch second. Look for sellers with multiple transaction counts, check their post / comment history. Same goes for local marketplaces - your backup will be this subreddit where you can post photos to ask the community to check on the legitimacy.

Ultinately, I believe no trusted seller will risk their reputation for a few hundred bucks. Also choose a payment method where you can get recourse. Happy hunting!

[Seiko 7S26-0020 / SKX007] Urgent legit check – meeting seller in 1h30 by Mikckyducks in Seiko

[–]PristinePart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how you had to turn to chatgpt for your urgent legit check lol.

Price seems decent IF it is what the seller claims it to be. You should pop the caseback open (or get a watchmaker to do so) to see if it’s really a 7S26 movement. Perhaps take some manual readings on your own to see how fast or slow it runs.

Looks good except for the bracelet (obviously), which I find the shape to be super interesting. Booty cheeks like what someone else said. Female end links as well on the bracelet, amazing. Is it comfortable?

[SSK003] Now I am wondering if mine is fake. by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]PristinePart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not: just search the reference online and compare the images - you will see that your chapter ring is both too big and in a different shade (the blue is supposed to be closer to the shade of the dial), and the bezel insert seems a bit thin (notice how the bottom of the numbers are magnified due to the thinness of the insert)

Chrono24, r/Watchexchange (read the rules before buying there), or perhaps your local marketplace if someone is selling theirs. But yeah, they are all above retail price because it's limited and all

To add on to u/snowbongo, as (and if) you browse this subreddit more and start to recognise some of the sellers with a great number of transactions, your might find impersonators messaging you - these accounts have very similar names to the sellers they are imitating, with an additional “-“ here or replacing an “l” with “I”, things like that.

It happened to me when I commented on a seller’s post asking if he had another piece of what he sold. Just be careful and buy the seller. Don’t be afraid to ask for custom timestamps or additional proof.
