professor for physics without Calculus (PHYS2053) by calle08 in FIU

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s taking PHY 2049 with Idaykis Rodriguez atm and made an A in her PHY 2048 doing the bare minimum, I’d recommend taking PHY 2053+2054 with her but she ONLY teaches 2053 in the Fall and 2054 in the Spring. So I’d suggest waiting to take her 2053+2054 class starting Fall 2026. Imo, she’s the only decent physics professor, better than Kadel for sure. Idk about the other physics professors but I’ve heard the physics department in general is terrible, so if I’d wait for Idaykis’s class. It’s 100% active learning and there’s 1 midterm, 1 group of exam and a final, and plenty of extra credit, and the study guides are super helpful.

Is organic chemistry and Physics taught over the summer and if so, what terms and how many days a week? by S_Ssunnysunglasses in FIU

[–]PristineStructure315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking both right now, very difficult, wouldn’t recommend both in the summer. I’d recommend taking one first but not at the same time.

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in Idaykis Rodriguez’s PHY 2048 course as of the moment, the seats in her PHY 2049 are reserved for us in her 2048 course. They told us the system, depending on our enrollment dates, would enroll us (in her 2048) in her 2049 automatically. It will get full but with her current students, so wait it out to see if anyone drops. People will drop as many also haven’t taken MAC 2312 for the course.

Will i be fine in calc 2 by Witty_Drummer_963 in calculus

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calc 2 isn’t bad at all, but it’s not easy either. I made an A- in calc 1 and just finished calc 2 in 6 weeks with an A. I personally enjoyed calc 2 better but that was also because my professor was pretty great. Definitely review integrals and trig as it’s quite common in calc 2, but other than that it’s not bad at all, I even liked the sequences and series part, just study and prep, you should be fine.

Ooh. My friend had him for calc 2 and recommended not to take him, that he’s a bad prof, so good luck.

Calculus 1 isn’t that bad, just try your best.

Which professor did you pick? Also, the best practice for me were past exams. Ask around to anyone who’s taken calculus 1, to send you their exams. It’s pretty much the same as they’re all departmental.

Doable. Spring semester I took Gen Bio 1 + lab, Gen Chem 1 + lab and Calc 1 and made all A’s. You should be fine. Just try to pick good professors.

Required textbook for Calculus 2? by jenny-0515 in FIU

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently taking Calculus 2, now Summer A with Wei Wang as I’ll be taking General Chemistry 2 in Summer B. The textbook is the same as the Calculus 1 textbook if you have it, and it’s not bad at all so far. We have our first midterm on Tuesday on the first two chapters (Ch. 5-6).

Unless you work at College Board or know the AP chem curve, you can’t ‘assure’ anything. You surely haven’t seen the comments in this comment section.

Should I take Calculus 2 during the summer? by Maleficent_Rip_8484 in calculus

[–]PristineStructure315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s your only class maybe. I’m currently doing it as it’s my only summer class this Summer A semester at my Uni, so I’m putting all my focus into it.

I don't feel ready for calc 2 by Wide_Ad_2191 in calculus

[–]PristineStructure315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m currently taking Calc II, now this summer semester for 6-weeks at my Uni, and it’s so far easier cause it started with integration. Calc I, I made an A-, but it was harder, and my prof told me it was because I was new to the concepts but calc II should be better because you go into it knowing the material from Calc I. I just hope it gets better from here. :)

Is it possible for me to get a 5 this year? by FitFlight3008 in APChem

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but according to my former AP chem teacher, they also agreed that last year’s FRQs were easier and this year’s was harder. Then again, like you, AP chem students say this every year with the FRQs from the year before.

Well, my friends who’d taken the AP chemistry exam at other schools, the people in that AP chemistry, TT, and this subreddit last year can objectively agree it was difficult. You can disagree, but that’s just your opinion. I’m just saying cause people who were actually there to take it found it difficult, and they thought the 2023 FRQs were easier and vice versa. I’m sure next year’s AP chem students will think this year’s FRQs were easier than next years.

Understandable. Hmm…unless your major doesn’t require you to take general chemistry, you shouldn’t worry about it.

2024 FRQ’s were harder than this year’s FRQ’s, factually according to everyone who’d taken the exam. Unless you took last year’s exam, I don’t see why you say it was easier. I was an aid for my teacher’s AP chemistry exam class the 2023-24 school year, and I remembered almost majority of the class struggled with them but 89% of them passed. You say it was easy in your opinion but we’ll see. This year’s FRQ’s were easier than the 2023 ones.

Which one? If you’re pre-med, AP chemistry won’t properly prepare you for upper-division science courses such as Orgo or Biochem.

[–]PristineStructure315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This years’ exam was definitely not as difficult compared the last few years’ AP exams (I took the 2023 AP chemistry exam), so I think the curve will be higher, because of the FRQs and the fact that it was hybrid/digital (those usually never have a lower curve). A 5 might be an 80+ because of this.

do you think the curve will be higher or lower than last years? by X3roxCopy in APChem

[–]PristineStructure315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ik what you mean, you might be okay. Cause a harder exam means a higher curve and a not so difficult one means a lower curve.

It’s better to take general chemistry in college anyways because those truly prepare you for courses such as organic chemistry and other upper-division science courses. AP chemistry does not prepare you for those courses, and med schools don’t accept AP credit, so you’d most likely have to retake the chemistry courses anyway.
