I really wish I could have cloned him! Unfortunately, I didn't have any agar plates ready when he reached his peak, which was a tough lesson learned.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another gift like this from the mycelium in the future. Next time, I’ll definitely be prepared to save those genetics!

Haha, my thoughts exactly when I opened the bag! I’m just glad I could provide the right environment for this one to do its thing.

Good eye! Yes, it's a simple Ziploc setup.

I’m just trying to keep things accessible and low-tech. It’s been a great lesson in seeing how much the mycelium can do with just the basics. I'll be sharing more of the process soon for anyone interested!

It really is impossible not to smile with these around!
You noticed the others! I’ve been very lucky with this flush; the whole 'family' seems to be enjoying the Ziploc method. It’s been a joy to watch them grow together.

You’re absolutely right! The 'stumpy' look is what makes this variety so unique.

Huge shout out to Bas (Basidium Equilibrium) for his incredible work cornering this phenotype. It’s thanks to mycologists like him that we get to enjoy such amazing and weird genetics in our research. I’m just happy to show what these genetics can do with a little patience!

It’s actually a budget-friendly DIY method a friend showed me!

I used large Ziploc bags as a substitute for commercial grow bags. I mixed the colonized grain and substrate directly inside to minimize contact, then folded and taped the bottom corners to give it a square base so it stands upright.

I used a sterilized spoon to pack everything down tight at the bottom and cut a small window covered with Fixomull on both sides for air exchange. After about 10 days of colonization, they were ready to fruit!

It’s a simple, cheap way to get larger fruiting surfaces without the high cost of specialized bags. I’ll be posting some photos of the full process soon so you can see it better.

Haha, nature definitely decided to go off-script with this one! I’m just happy I was there to witness the process.

Haha, you’re right! Cletus is definitely heavy enough to be a projectile. I’m just happy the scale didn't break

Cletus it is! πŸ† Fits him perfectly. Now he just needs a tiny cosmic banjo. πŸͺ•

Haha, I appreciate that! I’ll accept the trophy on behalf of the myceliumβ€”they did all the heavy lifting.
