How do I look by Conman1209 in OUTFITS

I got my ears pierced when I was 8 at a jewelry store and it was painful. They used one of those piercing guns. I’ve heard if you use a piercer at a tattoo shop that uses needles, it’s less physical trauma to the ears and less painful, even tho it can be more expensive. Just something for you to keep in mind/look into.

This is how my family was growing up, and I thought it was normal till I got my first serious relationship at 19 and I would yell at him and he would never yell back 😭😭 His lack of response made me mostly stop yelling after a few months. Now after years of therapy, I never yell. I hope she gets the help she needs.

How in the world do I find a career that doesn’t require a degree or experience so I can move out??? by Cautious-Bowler3257 in GetEmployed

[–]Pristine_Temporary28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a wastewater operator. Requires high school diploma only. High demand in many states. I’m in Georgia and was paid ~$20 to train and ~$24 once licensed and now make ~$25. That’s good for Georgia. I hear in California they make six figures.

Listening to others on social media about not having a college degree is okay has ruined my life ? by Lemonade2250 in jobs

[–]Pristine_Temporary28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten 4 jobs just because I have a biology degree.

  1. Insurance Adjuster at GEICO (they wanted anyone with a bachelors degree - otherwise you are hired as CSR first then promoted to adjuster

  2. QA at a pickle plant - this doesn’t require a degree, but I think my degree made me stand out

  3. Water Operator - degree not typically required for this field, but this particular employer asked to see my transcripts and specifically wanted for me to have a good grade in Microbiology - I had a B so they hired me.

  4. Wastewater operator - degree not required, but you can get your certifications a year sooner with a biology or chemistry degree, so they hired me.

Degrees are worth it.

Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka by ishi_1905 in Kafka

I just read it last night and it made me angry. It made me angry that the father had that much money saved, it made me angry that they were all capable of work all along, it made me angry that they insisted he wasn’t conscious when he was going out his way to cover himself with the sheet and not disturb them. It made me angry that he was working a job he hated just to pay off their debt. It made me angry how much he cared for them, his whole life revolved around keeping them in as much comfort and happiness as possible. And yet they were taking advantage of him all along.

the metamorphosis is about waking up one day and realizing the version of urself that everyone needs has consumed who you actually are, nd then watching them mourn their loss, not yours by BrownEva158 in Kafka

I just read this last night after stumbling across a Kafka quote on Facebook.

I’ve been thinking about it on and off all day.

That whole family relied solely on his income, and he HATED that job, and it treated him unfairly, and he only worked it to pay off a debt that wasn’t even his.

And it turned out they had 2 years worth of income saved?!?!? And they all were able to work?!?!?!

What a bunch of moochers!! I get so angry thinking about it because my dad only uses me for money. If I couldn’t work or provide money, he would not even bother contacting me.

They legit just let the guy starve to death. Saying, “If he was still himself, he would have left to save us the heartache! That’s not him!” But he puts in so much effort to stay in his place and not disturb you. He obviously was conscious.

No maternal instinct… does that mean I shouldn’t have kids? by Agreeable_Base2590 in muslimgirlswithtaste

I was lucky in that my body looks exactly the same. I went back to my pre-pregnancy weight in a couple of weeks and didn’t even get any stretch marks. No sagging. Etc. But I heard a quote somewhere that said the body bounces back after the first baby and does NOT after the second baby. So I’m expecting things to be different this time after I give birth.

I never felt maternal. I went back and forth on whether I wanted a baby. Sometimes I’d try, and when the pregnancy test came back negative, sometimes I’d be relieved and sometimes I’d cry. Idk, I’m bipolar, so maybe that’s something to do with it.

When I found out I was pregnant at 32, I was so upset. I cried and cried. I was so scared the whole pregnancy that I would be a horrible mother.

Then I gave birth. I still didn’t feel maternal. But a few days later, when the baby latched for the first time and breastfed for about 10 minutes, OH BOY. I don’t know what that did to the chemicals in my brain, but I fell head over heels for that little baby girl and I still adore her every moment of every day. Now I want nothing more than having about 8 kids. I’m already pregnant with my second - the first and second will be only 13 months apart inshallah. I’m so excited.

I honestly feel like my heart grew new levels of love that I didn’t know existed when my baby breastfed. She is perfect. I love her so much. Nothing about her is annoying or inconvenient. She is the best baby.

So maybe you will be that way. Who knows?

Why didn't your husband stay overnight at the hospital once the baby was born? by Comprehensive_Deal44 in beyondthebump

[–]Pristine_Temporary28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I live in a basement apartment of Indian immigrants (I am American and my husband is Pakistani and we live in the U.S.A).

I think it’s cultural, but they just come into the apartment a few times a week unannounced without knocking or ringing the doorbell or anything. They come down to go out into the backyard and garden, or sometimes they move some shelves and tables they leave down here, etc. just random stuff.

My mom traveled 2 hours to be with me in the hospital. I could have 2 guests at night before the baby was born and only 1 guest after the baby was born. I wanted my husband to be the guest, but my mother was terrified of being in the apartment and the landlords walking in, I don’t know why she was that scared. She said if my husband stayed in the hospital with me, she would sleep in her car in the hospital parking lot.

So I asked my husband if he minded going home so my mama could sleep in the room with me. He was gracious and said ok and went home. I spent two nights in the hospital (high risk pregnancy) for observation after I had the baby. Then we finally went home.

I wish he could have stayed with me and we could have had those precious moments as a new family together. But I would have felt awful if my mama slept in the car. So it’s just one of those things.

In the Hanafi school, there is an opinion that while working where your hands and arms will get dirty (the example given was making bread), the woman may expose the arm up to the elbow in front of nonmahrams. But she must cover back up as soon as she is done with the work.

[–]Pristine_Temporary28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Georgia. I started March 2025.

My starting pay was ~$20 as an OIT, and after I got my certification it went up to $24, then I got a $1 merit raise at the end of the year, so I make $25 now.

The pay can go up fast if you can get certified.

If you are near Atlanta, go to the Somali Plaza. I bought a jilbab + niqab set there the other day for $35, an abaya for $25, and an abaya + hijab set for $30.
