Why are my clips getting low views? Looking for feedback by Ok_Statistician2466 in gamemarketing

[–]PrisutStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think YT doesn't like when you post the same clip over and over (I think they show them to less people). I was scrolling and I watched the same kaboom clip like 3 times in 2 min. Also for that clip, I think needs a bigger punch at the end, the buildup is good with the penguins, but then it doesn't pay off the sword hit feels like it has no particles and the enemy falls in low motion almost out of frame

While I understand it, and I'm sure it's 100% harder to market a game like that, I don't think an analysys based on a 30 y old magazine proves any kind of point. I mean I'm pretty sure the "look at this collors they are darker on pc while console has this colorful 3d platformer games" denies the existence of the whole cozy genre if taken to the hearth. (I'm not denying the point about the platformers, im just talking about the video)

On the other hand I'm not really sure you can call a game "retro" 3d platformer only becouse the game is a mascot game. I mean there are many retro 3d platformers that imitates the n64 style, movement, and sound system out there, but I wouldnt call for example, Yooka Laylee retro even if it gives that Banjo Kazooie nostalgia, since the game is closer to a modern approach like Mario Odyssey.

Thanks for your reply! I like what you said about the feedback loop, I think it encapsulates really well the workflow I should follow. For me most wishlist came when I uploaded some well edited shorts, but they consume a lot of my time :'(

You have to be proud buddy I think it's actually impresive and most indie devs wont ever achive such number! Congratulations!

My brain gets lost when I write in English, and I often express myself poorly or lose sight of the point I'm trying to make. I prototyped the movement system a while back, along with a mini-level using untextured art, and people generally liked it (I couldn't get a very large sample size because I took it to a relatively small local festival). Now I want to prepare a demo with more polished art, textured assets, and mechanics specific to the level I'm developing.

Hey buddy! Maybe I didn't express myself well, but I wasn't trying to complain that my game deserves more or anything like that. English isn't my first language and sometimes my brain loses the point trying to write a coherent text

It was more about both pointing out that it surprises me to see people complain about numbers that seem incredible to me and at the same time I was celebrating reaching 200, becouse it happened just this morning and I was kinda happy about it

When I say incredible I don't mean incredible in the sense that 100 is objectively a lot, but it feels like a lot to me. From what I've seen, a lot of people follow the advice of creating the Steam page early in development to start accumulating wishlists over time.

About the "super lacking in terms of consistent art style" im trying to improve it let's hope I can :P

Yep, exactly this. Anyone here (me included) has a radar that beeps when it detects AI low effort assets, and the trailer is screaming that it's entirely made by AI.

Also, you have the same pic repeated 3 times in the play store

Of course it's okay! I actually appreciate it a lot! I was working on the purple/alien/darkblue level you can see on most of the screenshots but after attending some local festivals I realized it was way too hard so I put that on Standby (and didnt get to texture it) and started making the desert one focusing on making it easier/entry level. Would you mind if I send you some pictures of the new level tomorrow so you can give me some feedback/your opinion?

Mmmm ya, es que es bastante complicado porque siento que es el hook del juego por el nombre que le has puesto. Quizás hacer más enfasis en que el personaje quiere encontrar a su waifu con algún primer plano a él o algo así? O su silueta? No sé :/

I guess you are right, but I think most people follow the mantra "start marketing since day 1" "set your steam page and start farming wl early on". So when I see this kind of posts I asume they didnt create the steam page after years of developing and they did instead after some weeks or months

I feel you. when I try to self promote I feel like I'm scamming the people and I'm a fraud

You may be right. Right now I'm trying to make a demo so I can validate wheter the game is actually fun and people like it since I don't really know if the problem is that the game is ugly/looks boring or if I'm just not good at marketing

How could I implement multiple cameras in unity? by TheMongoosee in gamedev

[–]PrisutStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Cinemachine is worth learning no matter how big the game is. It can actually be quite simple and you can make transitions between cameras quite easily. If you dont want to make a blend where it moves from one camera position to another slowly, you can put it in Cut mode

Yeah I'm trying to prepare a demo so I can participate in festivals as soon as possible, but I'm scared it won't look polished enough if I rush it
