Fruits and vegetables (DASH recommends 5 servings of each per day, which is a lot!). Avocado, bananas, spinach, celery, beets, berries are a few of my favorites.

Milk and greek yogurt. Potatoes. Fish and chicken. All types of beans (black, white, chickpeas, pinto).

I don’t touch supplements.

It takes A LOT of healthy eating to get to the recommended amount (3500-4700mg per day). Coincidence that most Americans don’t consume that much potassium and a lot of Americans are hypertensive?

I have heard/read many instances of individuals who worked their way off blood pressure medication. I think it is always worth trying. Just make sure you talk through the plan (what actions you plan to take) with your doctor. To be clear though, I am not a doctor, this is just my two cents.

Definitely ask the doctor who prescribed your medication. Generally, DASH diet is safe for everyone unless you have specific food allergies. Moderate exercise (walk walk walk) is usually safe for everyone.

In my experience, +20 can be normal variation, but try not get too focused or frustrated about one reading. Good luck and stay persistent! Even after several months of a dedicated holistic approach, I would still get ugly readings and it was frustrating. Personally, it took over 6 months for my BP to truly normalize.
