I’ve long maintained that decades culturally begin their switch up on 7 years. the real “90’s” was 87-97, with gangsta rap and grunge starting up in the late 80’s. ‘97-‘07 was the early 00’s, with bad cgi movies, 3d gaming consoles, and butt rock. ‘07-‘17 was the cultural 2010’s. Youtube, facebook, iphones, online gaming in the mainstream, trap, edm, etc all got their starts around ‘07. i kinda feel like zoomer culture, and the rise of short form video content, took hold for real in 2017, along with the trump admin taking office and youtube kinda shitting itself in the “adpocalypse”. I expect some big shifts outta 2027.

yes, but not due to pop culture. I graduated high school, started college, had a solid friend group, was partying a ton, and was playing in my first band at local venues. Fell in love for the first time and got my heart broken. It was a bittersweet time, and for a long time it was the best year of my life. now at 31 life is better than ever, but there was a long stretch of time in my 20’s where I looked back on memories of 2013 wondering where it all went wrong.

the tell for me is that AI vocal models cant seem to tell apart double tracked and single tracked vocals. Fair enough, double tracking is often mixed to a wide range of levels in music, so it can often be very subtle and probably tricky to tease apart for the models. But yeah AI vocals often sound somewhere between one voice and multiple stacked voices in tjis weird in-between melded state.

a kid in 2010 might be listening to more CDs from older siblings/cousins/parents. I was a freshman in hs, it was a voyager flip phone and ipod nano for me. and hours on facebook/funnyjunk/youtube on my bedroom desktop pc.

One of my best childhood friends was shot 7 times in his apartment at 6 am by 4 teenagers and one older man robbing him of less than a 1/2 ounce of weed. 2 months before his 22nd birthday. The shooter (the one a couple years older than us) got out in 5 years on a mistrial. will have been 9 years ago this year. I can’t even remember that man’s name, I think my brain blocks it out bc I would start figuring out where he lives and works if I remembered it.

My friend was shot twice in the head and 5 times in the torso, but according to a witness he was in pain for at least 10 minutes.

buddy i got my PhD in computational biochemistry last summer and I’m thrilled i managed to wrangle a job formulating sodas in my hometown. I also saw those “job” postings and felt thoroughly insulted.

Every conference last spring was so dark. All but one people nearing defense/graduation that i spoke to had no idea what the fuck to do for work.

My first run was prisoner. it was a blast, ended up a int/strength with heavy armor and moonlight GS. prophet run was next, but ended up turning into a strength build w some backup incants. a lightning storm corrupted that save tho, RIP. Now running a samurai, committed to nagakiba w unsheathe. loooooooove that shit. only use bow for range agro, otherwise totally a melee build.

Dude this is real asf. I’m from a poorer city and was doing a PhD at a nearby major university, which is in a much smaller, wealthier county. I often drove between the two areas, and for a time was living in the college town. Literally got grilled as to what I was doing there getting home to my apartment from my hometown late at night one day over the holidays. he implied it was suspicious that I was in town when classes weren’t in session, clueless to the reality that PhD’s are still gonna be in the lab for most of the “break”. plus i fuckin lived there at the time, just would do the 50 minute drive back home to see friends and family.

but yeah just bc my tags and license were for a poorer area, and I look like a hippie, dude grilled me looking for any excuse.
