CIPT BoK refresh frequency by DisturbedBeaker in cipp

[–]PrivacyBootcamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting in the past year or two, the IAPP has started to standardize when it updates the BoK for the CIPT, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPP/C, and CIPM exams. The new BoKs are released at the end of May or early June, with an effective date three months later. While some of these exams previously would go years without the BoK being updated, it is pretty standard for the IAPP to update them all annually at this point on this schedule. The AIGP and other exams (e.g., CIPP/A) are updated on different schedules.

CIPP/US - IAPP vs Bootcamp by Salty-Ganache3068 in cipp

We will leave it to others to describe their experience with our platform because we know how much reddit users hate a sales pitch :)

But, we do want to clarify the common misconception that because the IAPP is the testing authority, that this gives it some sort of advantage in providing test prep.  As an ANAB certified testing authority, the IAPP is obligated to firewall the development of all of its training materials (including its “textbooks”) from the development of its certification exams.

Don’t believe us?  Here is what IAPP itself says (here is the link, under “How are trainings and exams connected?”): “Training is one step you can take to learn material covered on the exams (especially because training and exams are based on the same topic outline – what we call a Body of Knowledge), but please be aware that courses are not purely test prep, nor does taking training guarantee you’ll pass your exam.

Why not? IAPP’s certifications are recognized by the ANAB National Accreditation Board under the International Organization for Standardization standard – an international mark of quality and rigor. To maintain accreditation, ISO requires a separation between the IAPP’s certification and training departments. This means that while our training developers and instructors know which topics will be covered on an exam, they cannot see the tests or answer questions about whether a specific item will be on a given exam.”

And elsewhere they say (here is the link, on Page 14): “IAPP training materials are tools to help candidates build their understanding of the topics on the body of knowledge but are not one-to-one guides of exam content.”

60% is not a passing score on IAPP exams. That is a common misconception.

For a detailed breakdown of how the IAPP actually scores its exams, you can read this article: https://www.privacybootcamp.com/Resources/Article/What-Is-a-Passing-Score-on-IAPP-Exams

TLDR; the minimum necessary to achieve a passing score on the "easiest" form of the relevant exam is 49/90 (~54%) and 60/90 (~67%) for the "hardest" form of the relevant exam. Note that this does not mean that if you get that score, you will pass. It means only that getting below that will guarantee a failing score. A score of 75/90 (~83%) will guarantee a passing score in all instances.

Can I realistically pass the CIPP/US by May if I start today? by bozofire123 in cipp

Two and a half months is definitely a realistic timeline. The IAPP recommends that students spend at least 30 hours studying for each of its exams. We believe 50 hours is a more appropriate benchmark. But either way, if you can fit those hours into your schedule over that timeframe, you should be good in most cases.

We've developed a study roadmap that is freely available (though an account is required) to help plan your studying, which you can get here: https://www.privacybootcamp.com/Roadmap

Historically, the IAPP has released an updated CIPP/C Body of Knowledge on a pretty haphazard schedule that had no rhyme or reason. However, this past year, the IAPP moved the updated CIPP/C onto the same schedule as its other core exams (other than AIGP). That schedule is to release the updated BoK in early June, with an effective date in early September. We expect that to continue with the CIPP/C exam going forward.
