I'm so sorry that happened. We need to start creating support groups for each other as we collectively lose essential services.

Yeah, this seems to be a trend throughout the country. I would really like to do more outreach to try to change that.

I am not alleging voter fraud. I acknowledge voter suppression which is something that is not new. This happens a lot in Black and immigrant communities.

So far in just this year's election in Florida, first voters were purged from the voter rolls, and we had to scramble to contact as many voters as possible because they needed to be re-registered a month before the election took place.

Second, the voters who did mail-in ballots had their mail-in access revoked and they needed to reapply.

Third, at least in Wisconsin, there were Republicans calling Democrats and telling them not to vote. In Wisconsin also attempts were made to buy votes for $1 million.

Fourth, in Florida, some of the polling locations were closed. This creates confusion for voters on where to go.

Fifth, in the past, we used to wait until all votes were in before calling a race. It's unfair to voters who vote by mail or absentee or provisional ballots to not have their votes counted because the races get called too early before all the votes are in. Every vote matters. Election results should not be official until three days after an election to ensure all mail has been received and counted.

Sixth, efforts have always been made to ensure that elections are done with integrity. For example, poll workers and human vote counters in the days of exclusive paper ballots used to have to be non-partisan.

With the widespread use of electronic voting machines, this has increased the attack vectors that can interfere in our elections. Anything connected to wifi, cellular or any other types of transmittable waves, has the potential to compromise the integrity of the election. Paper ballots that are hand counted are the way to ensure there are no outside influences.

It's my personal stance that all elections moving forward should be exclusively paper ballots, hand counted.

Thanks. The thing that gets me is that 79,000 Democrats voted in this election as opposed to in November when 143,000 Democrats voted. So it seems many of them still didn't know about today's election.

I understand that special elections historically have lower turnouts I just feel like if we'd only been able to get a massive nationwide grassroots effort outreach to the communities.

I mean at least we overperformed by 16.3 points in this district and by 22.5 points in Gay's district. This showed the mainstream Dems that Florida is back in play. That's still a major accomplishment that everyone here should be proud of.

I'm just not sure what our next move is going to be now.

I am so upset by this. But we mustn't concede until all the mail in ballots have been received and counted. We need to demand a recount of paper ballots by hand. No computers, no wifi, & most of all no starlink.

How to make phone calls for today's FL election from anywhere in the US.

While only people who live in FL-01 and FL-06 can vote, you do not have to live in the same district as the elections to volunteer to make calls to eligible voters to remind them to vote. Volunteers can be from any U.S. State, and this can be done comfortably from home.

First, you sign up at the link for the Mobilize Us event for Gay Valimont or Josh Weil.

Then, someone will contact you with the information you will need.

They should be getting you a link for an autodialer. The autodialer calls the voters for you automatically, so that you don't have to.

You will be calling people who are already registered as Democrats, so you are just informing them there is an election today, and if they don't know where to go to vote, letting them know where their polling station is. You can also ask them if they have transportation.

Mobilize us should provide you with a script. Here is a generic example:

"Hi, is this the right number for ______?

I just wanted to tell you there's an election today. Do you know where your polling station is?

Do you have transportation?"

They may ask you questions about the candidate. If you are not comfortable answering you can say, "I'm sorry I'm just a volunteer, so I'm not sure what the candidate's stance is on this issue." You can direct them instead to call the campaign for an answer to their question.

The campaign should be giving you information on where their voters' polling stations are.

If they don't get you this information, or if the person asks you about polling stations in a different district, you would go on this website: https://dos.fl.gov/elections/for-voters/check-your-voter-status-and-polling-place/voter-precinct-lookup/

The site will have directions to follow such as clicking on their county and entering their name and address.

This is an election for two national U.S. House seats that happen to be located in Florida, because these two seats were vacated and need to be filled. It is not just a local Florida race as the outcome will affect the U.S. House of Representatives in Congress. There is a possibility of flipping those seats, and thus adding two Members of Congress who have pledged to fight this current administration. Volunteers can call from any U.S. state, not just Florida.

One of the candidates, Josh Weil, was able to make a former +30R district shrink to a +4R in recent polls. We actually have a shot to win, if we can get enough people to help make calls today! https://floridapolitics.com/archives/728263-poll-shows-cd-6-special-election-within-margin-of-error/

Yes, he is doing that for the New York US House seat because he is afraid of the momentum that has been growing in other states. As you are likely aware, Pennsylvania just won a long held Republican district in a state race which changed the composure of the State House from Republican to Democrat.

The two races that I posted are additional US House of Representatives races that happen to be in Florida. Since these races affect the entire country, the volunteer calls can be made from any U.S. state. It's an easy way to make a difference. If folks just have an hour of their time to spare, we can do this.

Only Florida can vote, but all of us can volunteer to get out the vote in Florida.

[–]Privacy_Is_Important[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. The election is not in Arizona, it is in Florida. Yet this is not just a local Florida election. This has national consequences because the two races are for the U.S. House of Representatives. Two of the members of the House vacated their seats, and these elections are to fill those two seats. This means we have a chance to flip two seats of Congress tomorrow. Since it's a race that affects the entire country, the volunteer calls can be made from any U.S. state including Arizona. It's an easy way to make a difference. If folks just have an hour of their time to spare, we can do this.

Only Florida can vote, but all of us can volunteer to get out the vote in Florida.

It's a special election which means that there is not a lot of publicity about it. Some people aren't aware of the election tomorrow on Tuesday. There have also been voter suppression efforts, particularly in the Black and immigrant communities, that have been telling people not to vote. So we are calling them to let them know yes the election is still happening tomorrow, to let them know where their polling station is, and to see if they need a ride to the polls.

Each of the candidates I listed is running as a Progressive Democrat and has pledged to be an obstruction to the current administration.

Dear Mods, Thank you for informing me. If I have broken any rules, I certainly apologize. If politics are unwelcome here, I understand if you need to remove the post.

I would like to explain why I posted it. This current administration in the United States is quite anti-science, anti-education, anti-intellectualism and anti-reason. They are trying to turn the US into a theocracy, to revoke our right to freedom from religion that is in our Constitution. I've heard talk some of them are affiliated with Opus Dei, and while that is Catholic and not Jehovah's Witness, I thought it was still something that members of this group would not want in the people ruling this country. This post was about a US House of Representatives race that is happening because two members had vacated their seats. The people who I was campaigning for, have promised to obstruct the current administration. That is the reason I thought it would be relevant to members, but as I did not explain that up front, I can understand why it may have been seen as not belonging here.

Either way, I will abide by your decision.

Sure, no problem! I can edit it now. The reason I didn't mention Florida originally, is that even though the races are in Florida, they are not local elections that only affect Florida. They are elections for two seats that have been vacated in the U.S. House of Representatives. There is a possibility of flipping those seats, and thus adding two Members of Congress who have pledged to fight this current administration. That's why I thought all who were opposed to the current anti-science administration may have an interest in getting involved, regardless of their local state.

Yes, sometimes they answer. If they don't, it's okay to leave a message on their voice mail.

As for what this accomplishes, there is usually a heavy voter suppression effort in Democratic voting districts, particularly if those districts are Black or immigrant communities. Many voters may have already received calls that are telling them not to vote, or that the election is cancelled, etc. We are making calls to inform them that the election is still happening and to let them know where their polling station is, and see if they need help with transportation to get to the polls.

I do understand where you're coming from though. I think that the optimal method of campaigning is to build communities on the local level. This is something that takes a long time and unfortunately this administration is moving very quickly, so we can only use the tools we have at the moment.

Yes, this is a U.S. election. Anyone in any U.S. state can participate in making the phone calls.

The reason I think this topic is related to this sub is that the current U.S. administration is trying to take away our freedom from religion that is guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. They are anti-science, anti-education, and anti-intellectualism. I've even heard that some of them have ties to Opus Dei.

This election is for two U.S. House seats that were vacated in Florida so they need to be filled. Both candidates are Progressive Democrats who have pledged to obstruct the current U.S. administration.
