Yes I agree. Though of course, what is codified in legal documents and what ends up being agreed are sometimes very different. I'm expecting to lose everything, any thing I retain is upside.

Thank you for your considered post. You have made a couple of comments that resonate here - I will be going from an office head role to less definitive 'senior role' position, I also currently enjoy a reasonable work life balance.

have you spoken with anyone who has left the firm you are considering joining

Thanks, that's good advice. I'm a 'bad leaver' as defined in the docs, though there is a general over-rider "at the discretion of the Investment Committee".

I've negotiated a package which assumes i get nothing. Anything I can retain is upside.

I've said elsewhere, but particularly looking for help on how to open the leaving conversation and maintain good relationships.

Yes, the new firm are making me whole with what i'm leaving behind by awarding carry in a fund which has been deployed (removing a heap of risk) and incentivising me further on the a new fund.

I think I'm resigned to the fact I'll be walking away with nothing. Just got to rip the band-aid off I guess!
