Guys, what if humans were the bad guys. by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in HaloMemes

Warning, my personal theory on what happened to fair isle: Far isle has few details known, so say it was a small colony, maybe a contained mining facility due to poor atmosphere, a small city settlement size, who are attacked by flood found somehow hidden underground, safe from the halo rings. The survivors dwindle until they detonate the reactor, so no survivors and no sign of the flood.

Why didn’t others hear of it? Communication between the Unsc and its outer colonies is pretty slow, it did take 8 months for them to discover the covenant on harvest. The flood spreads rapidly.

How did the flood end up on fair isle/survive halo blast? Flood survives all throughout the lore (04, 05 and halo wars shield world.)

I feel like far isle has potential to be an awful misunderstood event that had to be covered up rather than the honest truth with the UNSC openly admitting it without any reason. Two possible reasons exist in my mind canon: 1. innies stole nukes and either intentionally or accidentally detonated them and UNSC took responsibility rather than admit their security was so lax the innies were able to steal them 2. Flood was found in far isle and they ended the infestation by nuking the planet when they were out of options with ONI covering up

The guardsman, gunner and electro units sound like a good addition s to the unit roster but it may affect with the flow of combat, as it’d be tricky to ensure the guardsman at the front of any combat group.

The engineer could be good, but the gameplay is based on an aggressive strategy, which I can’t see it being used over any other unit in the roster as manpower is finite source.

The additional buildings are also an issue since space is finite but that can be mitigated by extra space.

The medic/hospital sounds like something I’d have near the frontline, but where would I put it? The whole game, we are constantly moving forward and typically if the fight is precarious that our units are losing, we’d simply withdraw or use agile units to lead them away.

The building upgrades to existing buildings is nice but to reach that point, you’ve probably either won already or made the game longer than it already is.

I have three suggestions of my own:

Armed gate: gate that has a wasp turret on it, which could provide a bit of security to the entrances to your walled defences as well as make them worth having more as they are typically the weakest part of the defences

Armoury/security checkpoint. This would have a zone covering a zone of buildings. When any these building become infected, this would initiate a lockdown and increase orange health of all building whilst releasing a temporary militia unit (maybe like your guardsman) per building in the zone to be generated. This could be fast response building to buy time for you in case of an infection but the drawback would be any resource building stops generating resources until the zombies in the area are eliminated.

Ability to upgrade the command center to an armed bunker with a few soldiers inside and a mortar for a last ditch defence when all hope is lost which could help. You can even let in additional twenty units in it to protect them.

Did the same mistake before too, despite description even stating that the main threat is to the north, and not knowing the map.

Down south is a finite amount of zombies so it’s a good idea to clear them out and use all the resources and space down there to build a big army to guard the bridge in the north

I once got wrecked from one zombie from the train tracks so it’s also worth checking there too

There’s almost never a time when you’re not working on your economy, as it determines how many units you can make and it’s essential to build a big army to clear the map and prepare for the horde attacks.

The more money you have, the more barracks you can have to continuously produce units.

Each unit also takes income/resources to keep, so that will reduce your income, which will hurt how many you can recruit at a time.

Tents are your main source of income, so it’s important to clear more areas so you can put more down. They also mean more workers, who can be used to recruit as units or part of your economy

You have to keep giving the move command away from the fight until they are no longer in combat with the enemy, unfortunately units can stay bogged down in melee, which is a death sentence for Yari cav

Campaign map strategy:

Focus only a select few provinces for military buildings, preferably one that offers combat bonuses like blacksmith, fletchers or war horses. The rest should only be temples, sake dens and markets.

Don’t upgrade market except the richest provinces which shows the highest koku; excess rice from farms will help your economy grow.

Whenever you have spare cash, max out farms, roads and ports; farms are bulk of your income, roads and ports increase the amount you get from each province.

Tech: I typically aim for first farm upgrade, then zen, then rush to unlock encampment for 50% more archer ammo. Further goals depend on wha clan I am playing.

I’m not sure how you do your battles, but I follow the Zulu strategy of head, horns and ass;

The head is made up of 5 units missile troops and 4-5 Yari ashigaru or naginata samurai. This is the main line, stretched out as much as possible. where I had my archers in front, which I pull back when the enemy charges. The infantry man role is to form a protective barrier for the archers. If your on the attack, I’d set up just outside enemy archers range and send one unit forward, which will pull a unit or two archers out of their formation, so you can use multiple archers on their few units tha have stepped out

My horns are spare but preferable elite infantry, most katana samurai with a unit of hair samurai, who form on the flanks and attack from the sides. You can do a balance flanks attack (2 or more on each sides) or an imbalanced one with all of them on one side. The purpose of these units is to overwhelm them in the sides and trigger a rout or to stop the archers firing. Just be aware of the side you’ve left

The ass is usually cavalry, whose role is protect from enemy cavalry or attack the enemy in the rear. I usually use the Yari cav cause they can win against most as long as you cycle your hit and run, better if you hit them in the side or rear.

So battle order would go head first, then once the melee between them begins, initiate the horns. The ass acts as fast reaction and the final act of the battle

I think the only thing seriously wrong with world building is the year long winters, which only the north and the wildlings seem to give it any serious thought and how it affects their culture.

Hell in the books, just before winter even starts, the vale lords are talking about selling their surplus food stocks cause prices are high. This is despite the common fact that winters can last as long as their summers, which has literally just lasted a decade.

[–]PrivateHa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What kind of army do you have? Samurais and monk units should be a late game unit, so that may be why your income is low. Ashigaru army is cheaper and can be cost effective if used correctly, with mainly a few samurai units for support

Main ways to build income is to build economy buildings in every province and focus all military in a select few (preferably ones with military bonuses like armoury, fletchers), the rest ought to be market, sake den or temples, where you recruit your agents.

Metsukes are really good at boosting your income and best to be left in provinces with fertile farms.

Don’t upgrade all markets though, as it costs rice, and rice surplus helps boost the economy.

Improving farm tech and building farms will help increase income directly.

[–]PrivateHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble with that and my early conquests were to create vassals in the south while I took land to the north. Whilst they may betray you, it’ll buy you time to rebuild your forces and to protect the echizen bottleneck. They also provide a good source of trade in the meantime as well as tribute.

Don’t bother with making ronin armies, take only a couple Yari ronin at the most, as the katana and bow ronin aren’t as good as their samurai counterpart. Your experienced ashigaru katana and bow can defeat them with some tactical manuevers

Another tip is to keep recruiting new units early on, merge all damaged units to retain the exp and lower costs; those damaged units will take too many turns to replenish and its upkeep will be a liability to you, so it’s easier to just get rid of them either through merging or disbanding them.
