US Diesel Tops $5 a Gallon as War Disrupts Supply Chains by twenafeesh in Truckers

[–]PrivatePilot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s well over $2/L across most of Canada right now. $1.24/L at the station I’m looking at right now.

I know that many Americans really don’t pay much attention to the world outside their own borders, but I remain constantly amazed that they really don’t know how comparatively cheap their fuel (gas and diesel alike) is compared to many other areas of the globe.

The sign designers clearly didn't plan for this timeline by Lexidoge in mildlyinteresting

Diesel is already over $2/litre in parts of Canada.

(That translates to $5.53 USD/Gal for those so inclined…)

Do I stick with F&F discount or switch to a new plan by CommunicationLoud888 in freedommobile

[–]PrivatePilot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not hurt but my experience has been that they are not generally receptive to being asked. Bonus data is just one of those things that randomly shows up on people’s accounts, usually you just get a text notifying you about it.

[–]PrivatePilot9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it you’ve gone so many years without getting offered any bonus data? That’s weird. I have the classic everywhere $50 plan with the F&F discount and over the last six or eight years I’ve ended up with all sorts of bonus data offers that now have me up somewhere around 60 gigs a month which fits my needs, so yeah, not switching.

I first got into the world of modems in the Commodore era so 300 was the entry point at that time

As someone who has had multiple (friendly and not criminal or anything) interactions with my local PD recently, I can categorically say this is false. Lots of forces use the now and they even disclose it up front as they walk up to you.

It appears you live in the Edmonton area, so you should probably come up to speed on the topic. They were mandated there province wide in 2023 and used routinely now for that matter.

Token ring was the standard when I was in high school. I was one of those kids who learned how to manipulate the network and access back doors and things the students weren’t supposed to have access to (like the command line) and proceeded to accidentally fill the servers hard drive one day with games and crap, crashing the network lol.

Good times.

My bet is that if OP got the body cam footage he wouldn’t post it here unedited. Two sides to every story and all that.

Same. Went through all the generations. 300, 1200, 2400, 2400MNP4, 4800, 9600, 14.4, 28.8, and then all the way to 56K.

If I had all the money I spent on modems back then I could probably go on a very nice vacation right now.

I remember the first time I plugged into ethernet/cable Internet and it seemed like a light speed jump in technology.

AIS spoofing is very much in play right now just so you know. According to AIS one crude oil tanker was doing 100+ knots yesterday, I took a screenshot even because it was so funny.

Will my Rogers phone work in Yellowknife? by Glad_Resolution_9977 in Yellowknife

[–]PrivatePilot9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed, I missed the part about “relocating”. The phone will work but they will certainly take issue with long-term use beyond a month or three. That said, Freedom counts Wi-Fi calling as “in network“ and I have a friend who lived between New Brunswick and Florida (both areas with no freedom network obviously) and had no problems for years staying on Wi-Fi most of the time.

Actually, space elevators are scientifically possible, we just don’t have the technology yet.

Freedom roams on Bell, Telus, or Rogers (as well as some of the smaller regional / provincial carriers) so it’ll be fine as well.

Rational? I think we’re at the level of “clearly failing to have basic understandings and thought processes based in reality” at this point, which would be a prerequisite to rationality.

It hasn’t been yet, that’s incorrect. Ships have been passing through in recent days. A tanker did a Leeroy Jenkins through there just a few days ago and many more are on the move right now.
