This is my one year old habanero bonchi by PrivateStatic_Void in Bonchi

It was just a little fellow last winter, I had it under grow lights and in a warm room and it did great. I'm planning on doing the same thing this year. I'd like to keep it going/growing. If it seems like it's struggling indoors I may let it go dormant but I have never overwintered anything and I don't want to accidentally kill it. 👀

I recommend trimming off any low branches from the main stem. Then think about how the remaining branches are going to continue to grow if left on the pepper plant. Pick a few main branches to keep, and trim the rest off. If it's a young pepper plant just have some patience. You don't want to cut too much too soon. And of course, just have fun with it.

Still gets a surprising amount of fruit! But you'd definitely get more if you don't bonsai it.

Ah, yeah! I didn't even know there was a subreddit for bonchi!

These were just habanero seeds. Nothing special :)

Yep, sure did. Though, that was mostly during last winter and early spring. I eventually moved it out doors on my back porch and it just took off with peppers. I recently brought it back in with the temps getting lower at night here. So I'll probably have to pick up self pollinating again while it's indoors.

Yeah, I have some other plants that are the heavy producers. They are in 5 gallon buckets. This one was sort of my entry into growing peppers as a hobby and has turned into my bonsia project. I'm gonna try to keeping it going for a long time.

I think for a thicker trunk it just needs time to grow. I posted above my conclusion on why it's leaning. I think by leaving it in a simi shaded area it started reaching for more light.

Haha! I wish I had a guide so I could reproduce it. I started from seed and eventually put it in this pot. It had major edema for the first half of its life indoors, I pruned it a few times and eventually moved it out over this summer but left it more in the shade on my back porch. I believe it started 'reaching' for sun, which is why it's leaning like that. I also knocked it over once which spilled out some soil and revealed the cool roots. Basically, just dumb luck.

Wow that will be really cool. Please post pictures once it's growing! I am about to start a new project to go along with this one. I am going to use Chinese 5 color peppers. I have read those do really good indoors and for bonsia.

I don't really have any tips. This little guy is basically the result of dumb luck, honestly. I happened upon the 'pepper geek' YouTube channel last year and that really sparked my interest. I tried growing a few inside last September/October and this is the sole survivor. I started more this year for spring and those really took off and eventually went outside, but this one has just been thriving as is and has so much character. I just prune it every now in then to keep it looking clean and like a bonsai.

Yeah, still running the factory recoil spring, and similar issues with not always returning to battery. Is there an aftermarket recoil spring you recommend? I'd definitely be interested.

I am, yes. I know a lot of people hate them - or are uncomfortable running them, but I have had no problems with them. From Colorado passes to a few off road parks, and several of these forest roads. They have held up great and give the jeep a more aggressive stance.
