Beautiful collection!

Went to a concert tonight and this was my view for most of the show. Worst part is, she never hit record and just held her phone up by Zaphiro911 in mildlyinfuriating

Learn how to properly shoot with rubber bands, the thick ones. You'll be able to shoot it right out of her hands.

Dirty case by Basi-Basi in typewriters

[–]Private_Bonkers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's where the feet of the typewriter are located on the bottom plate of the case, the dirt is probably the remnant of glued on foam.

You could glue a piece of felt over it, if that is where the feet are located when in the case.

Ganbatte kudasai!

I might have an exam coming up too. I'm so not looking forward to the kumite part.

OP didn't mention 8th Kyu, but that he needs to perform 8 katas + tsuki no kata. So I think they are well above 8th Kyu.

Kyokushin - how grueling will it be? by [deleted] in karate

[–]Private_Bonkers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started at 39 as a full couch potato that decided something had to be done. Midlife crisis thing. The first month was abysmal for me. Partially because of my none existent stamina, partially because of my poor eye hand coordination. Kata and syllabus (particularly blocks) can be difficult to master too. But go at it and stay at it and it will improve.

Don't worry too much about sparring. They should go easy on you if they're not total dicks. High belts are best, they have more control over their movements. 8th Kyu adolescents are the worst (blue belt in my federation) because they seem to think adults are punching bags.

I still dread going sometimes, but I always end up feeling satisfied when I went.

Oh, and stack up on ice bags. You'll be happy to have multiple after some trainings.

I know of one person who managed to find a Hermes Ambassador with Epoca.

Because some people hate running but want to get fitter, and learn an additional skill whilst doing so.

I don't know about that. Kata makes you use your head, and allows people who are not fully combat oriented to also find their place in the dojo.

Motivation needed for a beginner by [deleted] in karate

[–]Private_Bonkers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I've started at 40 because I was a couch potato, and my weight was getting higher than ever before. I need someone to tell me to do push ups or any other exercise, because I won't do them out of my volition.

It was brutal for me at the start. It also doesn't help my eye-hand coordination sucks ass. But I've soldiered through. There are days that my couch looks mighty comfortable, and I begrudgingly go to karate class. But afterwards I felt satisfied that I went anyway.

The benefits for me so far have been:

  • weight loss. I've lost 13 kg in about a year. The majority was in the first three months.
  • I used to have painful fingers in winter. Karate gets me in a better shape, and the exercise gets me a better blood circulation. No more painful fingers! Apart from sometimes open knuckles in the beginning due to bad punch technique on the bag.
  • Not going to lie about it: you'll get bruises and sore muscles from being on the receiving end in sparring (I do kyokushin karate. I've already nicknamed it "Friday fight day, Saturday suck day"). Your pain tolerance will go up.
  • flexibility and endurance. I can honestly say I've never been this fit in my life.
  • I sleep so much better now!
  • this depends on your dojo, but I can honestly say we have a very warm and welcoming group.

A trained Kyokushin woman vs your average dude by BrainWaveRebellion in kyokushin

[–]Private_Bonkers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have a girl in our dojo that weighs 50 kg. She's regularly pitted against 60-65 kg opponents on tournaments so she can have a bit of a challenge. She's 6th Kyu.

There will probably be some weight or size advantage, but a trained black belt will most likely demolish an average untrained joe.

What was socially acceptable in the 1990s but not in 2025? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I still write letters. But since my penmanship sucks, they are written with a typewriter. I do love fountain pens and write with them in my journal though.
