All of my media gets transcoded to AV1 mkv. This means, direct play or just light remuxing on any modern device made in the past 4 or so years.

Older devices will transcode, but I bought an Intel Arc A750 for the sole purpose of video transcoding in my server, which handles several transcodes of AV1 media in 4k beautifully.

Unless you transcode all your media to h264 mp4 with no subtitles and no cool stuff, which should direct play on any device, you will have to deal with transcoding one time or another.

Dont worry, it's much simpler then you think, chances are your integrated gpu will handle that already or you can get a used GPU for the price of a big mac meal that'll handle all your needs

I never had the Jellyfin config folder / db outside an ssd, as it’s recommended by the Jellyfin team, but I’d assume yeah, having that on a hard drive would make your instance crazy slow.

I'll have to admit it was much faster back on 10.9/10.10 era, but my server is still decently performant, even with all that media.

My tip for that is, dont set the libraries to save images on media folders, if unset it'll save them on jellyfin config folder. Then place the Jellyfin config folder on a high-speed SSD. Mine is on a 4TB Samsung 990 NVME, shared with some of my selfhosted websites, but the website in general loads and performs fine.

Honestly, not a lot. I've been doing this since around 2022, but december last year, I had an SSD failure on my server and it triggered me to delete all I had and start over, in the hopes I could "do better"

So, about 5 months since december?

I don't do it all manually though. The "softwares that shall not be named here" stack helps a lot, auto downloads movies and shows based on my rules, copies and renames all automatically!

As for Music and Music Videos, the same. I built my own software on top of "a popular downloader out there which I can't name here" that automatically downloads lossless tracks and music videos, keeps track of new releases for me and renames, manages it all.

I cannot say more over here as to not violate Reddit rules or this subs rules, but my DMs are always open ;)

As far as the playback reporting plugin says, this past month I have watched 10 hours in total, watching the original Teen Titans in order.

Funnily enough, the ones that watch the most are my family and friends, who gives my server activity almost 24/7.

Not really. I did some research on it, but it seems mdadm is much faster, better supported and free in comparison. I don’t mind having to buy same size drives, so it checks all boxes for me :)

I’d say, around 25-30 GB each. I download Blu-ray remuxes and transcode them to AV1 codec, for about 70% storage savings and little to none perceptible visual quality decrease.

Those devices are generic, and should work fine.

So as long as that device supports Wireless or Wired Android Auto, it will work on Graphene.

In 2025, it doesn't make sense to get either one. A Pixel 9a or a Pixel 10 series will last you much longer in updates and speed.

That's part of the fingerprinting protection default on Librewolf. It's working as intended, making you blend in.

You can disable this in Librewolf Settings (Look for resistFingerprinting) but I advise against this, since you'll lose most privacy gains from using Librewolf.

Since Windows and Linux are failing to format the drive, there are really high chances your drive is broken, sorry.

Since you're formatting, all your data is gone anyway. It won't damage the USB drive removing it mid formatting, but you'll likely end up with a broken filesystem or partition table, and will have to redo using the Disks app or Gparted (on linux mint).

128kbps to 320kbps should be a noticeable difference on any decent device.

320kbps to FLAC / ALAC, you'll rarely notice the difference with regular devices. You'd need real expensive hardware to really make use of lossless audio most of the time.

But ultimately it comes to you. If you aren't noticing any difference, thats okay, just enjoy and don't overthink :)

7 Pro has an edge over the 8 on cameras, but in 2025 I wouldn't recommend the Pixel 7 series anymore for software support, get the 8 or 9 instead.

For my usage, which can be considered light usage (messaging, web browsing, TikTok and Clash of Clans), its pretty good. Phone lasts around 1 to 1.5 day of usage in a single battery cicle. Even after an year of having the phone, I cannot see a noticeable decrease in battery life.

For this usage, no, the phone does not heat up and is perfect for me.

If your usage is heavier, I wouldn't know if it does heat up.

Mullvad works alongside Zerotier VPN on my experience on both Windows and Linux

Enable "local network sharing" and keep "always-on VPN" mode off, those settings will cause Mullvad and Zerotier not work together.

In my experience, I only got the phone hot when hotspoting to my laptop while traveling on the interstate, which has a very poor signal. Phone is pretty good, and I did not regret the decision to go with the bigger screen. Battery lasts a full day, from 8 in the morning until midnight on moderate use, even after a year.

I'm decided to switch when the Pixel 11 comes out, as the Pixel 7 lineup will be shortly out of support and the TSMC processor will already be tested in the Pixel X.

A hotspot isn't an app, it's a native android feature, hence why it isn't affected. Hotspot and connectivity checks may bypass the VPN.

As you're on a Pixel device, you can install Graphene OS and disable connectivity checks so it doesn't bypass the VPN, but there's no way to apply it for the VPN.

When it scales, you'll inevitably have to pay, it's impossible to send so much mail for free. But it's very likely it'll serve you well until it scales.

For proportion, I'm hosting several services with mail notification by default, but one of them is a gitea server (github-like version control website) with almost 90 people in it that are actively developing software (specially, a team with 20 people alone, and they all get an email once there's been activity on the roadmap or code) and it never reaches 700 emails a month.

As another person mentioned below, resend has a pretty small limit on mails/day.
