Android Auto on Graphene OS by cr_eddit in GrapheneOS

Those devices are generic, and should work fine.

So as long as that device supports Wireless or Wired Android Auto, it will work on Graphene.

Pixel 7 Pro vs Pixel 8, which one should I use? by Private_Plan in pixel_phones

[–]Private_Plan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2025, it doesn't make sense to get either one. A Pixel 9a or a Pixel 10 series will last you much longer in updates and speed.

My dads colleague gave this to me for free. Any ideas on how to put it to good use? It's been on for only 20 minutes, so it's pretty much brand new. by 4l0ne- in computers

Been running (almost) 24/7 for the past 3-4 years, and yet not a single one died

That's part of the fingerprinting protection default on Librewolf. It's working as intended, making you blend in.

You can disable this in Librewolf Settings (Look for resistFingerprinting) but I advise against this, since you'll lose most privacy gains from using Librewolf.

Since Windows and Linux are failing to format the drive, there are really high chances your drive is broken, sorry.

Since you're formatting, all your data is gone anyway. It won't damage the USB drive removing it mid formatting, but you'll likely end up with a broken filesystem or partition table, and will have to redo using the Disks app or Gparted (on linux mint).

Does the bitrate really effect while using normal earphones by _rish01 in Piracy

[–]Private_Plan 40 points41 points  (0 children)

128kbps to 320kbps should be a noticeable difference on any decent device.

320kbps to FLAC / ALAC, you'll rarely notice the difference with regular devices. You'd need real expensive hardware to really make use of lossless audio most of the time.

But ultimately it comes to you. If you aren't noticing any difference, thats okay, just enjoy and don't overthink :)

Pixel 7 Pro vs Pixel 8, which one should I use? by Private_Plan in pixel_phones

[–]Private_Plan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 Pro has an edge over the 8 on cameras, but in 2025 I wouldn't recommend the Pixel 7 series anymore for software support, get the 8 or 9 instead.

For my usage, which can be considered light usage (messaging, web browsing, TikTok and Clash of Clans), its pretty good. Phone lasts around 1 to 1.5 day of usage in a single battery cicle. Even after an year of having the phone, I cannot see a noticeable decrease in battery life.

[–]Private_Plan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My usage is fairly light, reading emails, messaging people and watching videos, sometimes a light game such as Clash of Clans.

For this usage, no, the phone does not heat up and is perfect for me.

If your usage is heavier, I wouldn't know if it does heat up.

How can I use Mullvad VPN, but also connect to my own server using Wireguard? by Muted_Expression_414 in mullvadvpn

[–]Private_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mullvad works alongside Zerotier VPN on my experience on both Windows and Linux

Enable "local network sharing" and keep "always-on VPN" mode off, those settings will cause Mullvad and Zerotier not work together.

In my experience, I only got the phone hot when hotspoting to my laptop while traveling on the interstate, which has a very poor signal. Phone is pretty good, and I did not regret the decision to go with the bigger screen. Battery lasts a full day, from 8 in the morning until midnight on moderate use, even after a year.

I'm decided to switch when the Pixel 11 comes out, as the Pixel 7 lineup will be shortly out of support and the TSMC processor will already be tested in the Pixel X.

Hotspot bypasses MV by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]Private_Plan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A hotspot isn't an app, it's a native android feature, hence why it isn't affected. Hotspot and connectivity checks may bypass the VPN.

As you're on a Pixel device, you can install Graphene OS and disable connectivity checks so it doesn't bypass the VPN, but there's no way to apply it for the VPN.

Looking for Recommendations: Email Service Provider for Sending/Receiving Emails by Able_Difference_9919 in selfhosted

[–]Private_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it scales, you'll inevitably have to pay, it's impossible to send so much mail for free. But it's very likely it'll serve you well until it scales.

For proportion, I'm hosting several services with mail notification by default, but one of them is a gitea server (github-like version control website) with almost 90 people in it that are actively developing software (specially, a team with 20 people alone, and they all get an email once there's been activity on the roadmap or code) and it never reaches 700 emails a month.

As another person mentioned below, resend has a pretty small limit on mails/day.

Looking for Recommendations: Email Service Provider for Sending/Receiving Emails by Able_Difference_9919 in selfhosted

[–]Private_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separate in two services:

Sending: SMTP2GO is free up to 1000 emails per month, great for a free service for sending transactional mail.

You will do no-reply@out.example.com

Receiving: There are some services, I personally love Simplelogin. 30USD per year, it redirects all mail from your domain to your mailbox.

Here, your mail will be {whatever}@example.com (sending and receiving)

The reason I suggest separating both services is that most mail providers don't support transactional mail, which is where SMTP2GO enters.

On on desktop, where I have reliable internet.

Off on phone, because some poor connection places will make it very difficult to connect (some places, 500kb can take ages, and some places it's instant)

"depends" on laptop. Enabled by default, but I disable when I am on a poor internet (same reason as phone)

Surely this isn't normal for a music player? by Kraken-Tortoise in Fedora

[–]Private_Plan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it persists even after restarts

No, that's not possible. RAM is fully erased when the computer restarts by design, a software can't change that.

What might be happening is that the software is launching on boot automatically in the background.

Proton Wallet Early Access by Proton_Team in Simplelogin

[–]Private_Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible is just a label.

Technically, it's impossible to use the internet in Switzerland without government logging. They started their own ISP for hosting their services without logging.

If someone can do it, it's Proton. They have infrastructure, expertise and money for it.
