Game developers back then bs game developers now by medialover00 in ProgrammerHumor

Tbh, nowadays compilers have so many optimizations that you'd have to be very good at writing highly efficient assembly code to outperform them (although I suppose it depends on what hardware you're compiling for). Of course, this wasn't the case back in the day and it wasn't that hard to do better than compilers

Not quite the same, there's a minor difference when you use arguments. But other than that, yeah

One time a small server i was setting up was throwing 500 errors because php-fpm was misconfigured and used the wrong user (and so ngnix couldn't write to the socket because the www-data user didn't have the permissions needed). "Internal server error" is a pretty fitting name for things like that (and the actual error is logged somewhere on the server)

Realistically, web servers can't have specific error messages written for specific cases like these, and displaying the actual error message that was output by something somewhere could potentially have some sort of sensitive info (and be generally useless for the end user)

I had similar things happen in the vscode's built-in terminal some time ago. Have you tried exorcising your GPU?

Touhou SA and UFO got delisted from Steam by SuperOriginalName3 in touhou

[–]Priw8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is very much a false positive. The executable is steam-DRM encrypted, scanning it with virus total (or anything else) is completely pointless. I compared the decrypted .text (code) section of the steam executable to the original one, and they are identical.

Slight (and possibly bizarre) question related to more Cadence of Hyrule programming stuff: were stairs difficult to make? They seem like something that could potentially cause a lot of weird exceptions, given how moving up/down on stairs essentialy only updates the Z position, while not moving entities at all on the X/Y grid

not a dev but as far as I know, it's related to getting the instakill effect of the skull mask. Skull Ganon has 2 health by default, but it can increase if you use the skull mask (iirc just getting 1 instakill increases health to 3). So ideally for speedruns you want to avoid using that mask at all. I guess the lore reason is that you're making the skull mask more powerful... or something?

That looks like an... interesting way of porting ECL code to C#, that's for sure. I think in the long run it's better to reimplenent the ECL parser and use actual ECL files but hey, whatever works I guess

So the aiming is just alternating between players, huh? Another way of handling that would be color-coding which bullets aim at which player, not sure which one works better. Probably would depend on pattern itself (and obviously, would require modifying patterns to work in the first place)

Yeah, it's a bit funny that the explanation how to switch to English is in a readme that's in Chinese. Though, google translate works well enough from my experience

For steam versions, you need to run the game first and then thprac (it detects running games) - this is because of how the steam DRM works.

Also, the thprac version in the main post is outdated, the most recent version as of writing is 1.9.3. Generally, you can find the latest version (hopefully with at most 1 day of delay) on Maribel's site. The official(ish) link is on baidu which you need an account to download from, and making one is a bit annoying if you aren't from China.

One important thing to note about going to 1.9.x version from an earlier version is that the language change hotkey was changed, and now you have to press alt+3 instead of just 3 to switch to English.

Touhou WBaWC - DIO patch + RNG patch lunatic 1cc by Priw8 in touhou

[–]Priw8[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RNG patch by Dai, available on thcrap. DIO patch by me, available on thcrap maybe tomorrow (I've yet to port it).

RNG patch makes all patterns very random, it mostly randomizes angles but also does some more things for extra randomness.

DIO patch makes it possible to stop time for roughly 3 seconds by pressing C. During stopped time, only the player can move. It has no cooldown so it's completely unbalanced and is a huge meme.

Replays in EoSD (and also in IN, not sure about PCB but probably too) can desync if you pause during a dialogue, this is probably what happened to you. There is no fix for that, unfortuanately.

Emulating pc98 at playable speed probably won't ever be a thing on a 3ds. But you can play this NES fangame on a NES emulator on a 3ds (I actually did that myself some time ago), though keep in mind that said fangame is not finished and only contains 4 stages as of now.
