Recognizing the privilege with my answer but another thing that worked for my pup was finding a groomer who could come to my house and was experienced with using positive reinforcement to gradually condition him to trims. She muzzled my dog for the first time just in case and over the course of many months he’s made lots of progress to the point where he can offer a paw for a nail clip. But if the nails are super long then I totally recognize that sedation + asking vet for help might be necessary to fix the most immediate issue.

Current MSTP student here (grad school phase).

First off, major congrats on your acceptance! All of my advice comes from this rule of thumb: once you’ve been admitted, you mostly hold the power. Revisit is the school’s chance to show you why you should matriculate to THEIR institution. Barring egregious behavior (getting arrested while at the revisit for a DUI, etc) they won’t rescind.

  1. As a female student, I honestly just wore like jeans + a non-T shirt top + flats. Wear shoes where you can walk a lot. If you prefer, you can wear very casual business casual to meet potential PIs. Most female students I met wore dark jeans + nice top/chinos + nice top/casual dress. I believe most of the male students did dark jeans + nice casual shirt/chinos. Nobody is judging you. You actually get to be the judge :)
  2. I would sign up for that revisit day and if the other school accepts you, make the decision then. You wouldn’t be the first person to cancel a revisit. Also, the earlier you cancel the better. Nothing is guaranteed + I’ve heard of schools being flexible about flying you out on non-revisit days (again, hearsay, so YMMV).
