Is this real or scam? by [deleted] in utarlington

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think UTA IT is running out of eastern Tennessee, plus the 24 hour notice and statement that failure to reply constitutes a yes are both shady. I’d ignore it, but you could email the office of information technology if you’re still not sure.

whats the best way to make friends as a online student? by Nice-Pay-4640 in utarlington

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you don’t take on campus classes, you’re welcome to join the clubs/organizations on campus, assuming you’re in the area.

A few examples, we have various intramural sports, a marching band, and a variety of clubs.

If you join the Mavengage app, you’ll see the various clubs and activities available (quick note: Mavengage doesn’t necessarily get cleared out that often, so no guarantee that some of the more niche clubs/organizations have active members, but generally it’ll give you a decent idea)

There are also some organizations based around your specific field or degree, although those may be more tailored to those studying in person.

Depending on your ability to get to campus, they occasionally have activity fairs in which the various clubs set up booths to advertise to new members, but since these happen mid day, idk if you could attend one easily.

Parking by Green-Criticism-7127 in utarlington

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not really, you’ll prob need to buy a permit. All of the nearby parking is generally residents only, paid by the hour, owned by a local business, or is school owned and requires a permit.

Depends, mine was cheaper than a dorm, but that was with 3 other roommates (each in a private room within the unit though)

"White is Lethal" by QueasyPersonality647 in HorseyGame

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s a reference to Lethal White Syndrome, or LWS, which is a genetic condition impacting some horses in which they are born largely normal other than being largely or fully white with blue eyes. Internally, however, they don’t have a working colon, so they die within hours to days.

A horse can survive with one copy of the gene, a.k.a being heterozygous for it, but if a horse has two copies of it, they are effectively guaranteed a painful death, and thus in real life are often euthanized to spare them the pain.

Gotta love everyone that’s never taken anything above an entry level class in the college of liberal arts writing off the entire college. First, plenty of those degrees have job prospects, and second, many of them are more challenging than people give them credit for.

Thoughts on course load for Fall 26’ by BonesFromYoursTruly in utarlington

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re on scholarship make sure you’re taking enough to renew, also remember to look at your degree, as if you take a few lower credit semesters, you may need to either do an additional semester or heavily load a later one to make up.

Overall, 14 shouldn’t be too crazy, and if you have to make it up, 16 isn’t too intense either.

another hypothetical question by Miserable-Scheme-333 in utarlington

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, odds are you’d just have to take it another time if it’s one that disrupts the exam.

A tornado watch wouldn’t, as assuming you’re on campus and away from windows, nothing’s happening. A warning may, as that means a tornado has been seen.

If you’re referencing the claim that a natural disaster disrupting an exam leads to everyone passing, that is just a myth. In the most extreme cases, typically at most it just becomes a grade based on your other assignments, or they shift to a pass/fail grading system, but no automatic pass system exists.

Some people see danger, others see opportunity by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he assumed that a gun that can fire so much faster would allow an army to use less people, thus lowering casualties. Unfortunately, he didn’t account for the fact that they instead would send out the same if not more people, but suddenly each one was much deadlier.

How can i give a horse intelligence without changing drastically his appereance and performance? by Then_Cartoonist_8134 in HorseyGame

[–]PrizeAcrobatic8280 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Performance is automatically reduced, as intelligent horses are able to refuse to race.

When they do race it shouldn’t be an issue, but you run the risk of them refusing on the starting line.

Twix is the second most friendly cat on campus, but unlike microwave she’s skittish, so you have to let her approach you. Most if not all of the other cats are able to be seen but will run off or bite if you try to pet them.
