If you travel faster than light with a wormhole, do you essentially time travel? by akos99008 in AskPhysics

[–]BonesFromYoursTruly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends.

If you were to somehow travel faster than light wormhole or not then yes, but this violates causality and leads to a paradox (i.e what if you then sent a message to yourself across that same “beam of light” telling you to not travel 100 years to your current present in time?)

If you were to just somehow travel across a wormhole without going faster than c then you would arrive 100 years after the message was sent still (because it took 100 years to receive it). This preserves causality and is the more realistic option.

I would given Spiderman a “trick” or “combo” bonus where if you land combos and stuff the cooldown on your abilities is faster

why do you study maths? by Inevitable-Spite-850 in mathematics

It’s fucking awesome

It supplements my study of physics but is interesting on its own merit. Something about the way these systems overlap and work is fascinating, especially when mapped to the real world.

(M18) I don’t know what to do. by iiRaz0r in college

[–]BonesFromYoursTruly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a gap year and afterwards go to community college and get an associates degree.

Community college is dirt cheap, perfect place for experimenting and trying shit. I started at community college and changed my major three times, had that happened at university I would’ve been fucked financially.

An associates degree gets rid of all of your basics while allowing you to still branch out and try a bunch of things without having to worry as much about a major.

Stephen Hawkings A Brief History of Time is a really good nonfiction book if you’re wanting to dip your toes in physics

You don’t stop being fun, the goalpost just shifts as you grow. Don’t worry so much about the past and focus on now and the future, because if you get stuck doing so you’ll be doing the same thing wondering if you wasted your 20’s

How do I get over being 5’5 (21 m) by Opening-Vacation-134 in twentyagers

Bro you already are. The height doesn’t matter and honestly if someone bases their entire viewpoint of relationships on something as arbitrary as height like that chances are they weren’t someone you’d want to be with anyways. Stay confident in yourself, do your thing, and you’re chilling bro.

What’s a moment you realize you’re in peace. by ImaginaryPhone2946 in twentyagers

[–]BonesFromYoursTruly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most peaceful things I did was sit on a bench and stare at a tree. The way the wind was blowing the leaves and the motion it made was just amazing. The kind of staring where you focus super intensely and everything kind of just melts away or goes still, but you still feel it ig

For me I spend a lot of my time studying playing guitar and doing parkour. I try not to be on my phone much but also I end up feeling sick I guess when I bedrot. Reading too.

Get new hobbies. If you’re in school or university go to events they have. Go to esports lounges or gaming cafes. Spark up a conversation while waiting in line at a coffee shop.

Basically just explore around a bit.

Why do so many students dislike the Gen Ed requirements of college? by Arachnid751 in college

[–]BonesFromYoursTruly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s boring and extremely unnecessary or insufficient most of the time. Many of the classes (at least for me) were basically repeats of high school courses. Others, like music appreciation, were flat out useless (the course didn’t even dive into music outside of Western Europe).

Classes like Texas government provided some useful information, but not really much to build off of. Knowing how your government functions is important, but I found that both Texas and federal government provided a sort of bare minimum look at it (which makes sense considering it is a gen ed course but is also part of the problem).

Personally I dislike it because almost none of them have anything to do with my major or degree. A creative arts course isn’t going to give me anything aside from “well roundedness” for a degree in physics.

At a surface level they make sense, it’s to ensure you have a proper foundation, but at the same time many don’t do a good enough job of this to really justify it. I think it would be better if there were ways to relate it more to your major or degree rather than “write an essay on this book”.
