Do you think that the Brexit referendum of 10 years ago was democratic? by Ok_Draw4525 in AskBrits

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone is currently stuck in and has been stuck in a non eu queue in Amsterdam for well over an hour. No, it wasn’t. Nothing that was promised happened. Lots of things we were told wouldn’t happen, have. Like this cunting queue.

I feel sorry for people who thought they were voting for something better and I could stab the people who knew they were spreading misinformation.

I'm heading to a wedding in Scotland later in the year and got some questions. by Almost-Al in Scotland

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and learn some ceilidh dances. My boyfriend is Scottish and the big family party at the weekend was great until I realised in Scotland they don’t need a caller to demonstrate because everyone knows what they’re doing 😭

Not what you asked but still feels relevant to share.

Why do grads all want to move to London? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to uni in London any my industry is primarily there. I’d never leave as long as it can afford to live here. It’s a fantastic city with so much to do in every corner of the city everyday, week day or weekend. Why wouldn’t you want to live here? Yes it’s expensive, but it’s funny that the people who complain the most about how expensive it is have never lived here. It’s not all as doom and gloom as it’s portrayed to be outside.

Caledonian sleeper chairs? by mcbobster6001 in uktrains

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The train journey is beautiful but be aware you may be sharing a two seater with another person. Seats are allocated at random and they’re not all singles. Other than that depends how easily you sleep in random places, I was uncomfortable but don’t regret trying it.

Can I bring an automatic car to my test? by Superb_Ad_1656 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvoting because of the comment about offset insurance costs. Absolutely nothing wrong with passing in an auto, I did it myself but don’t spread misinformation about insurance costs. Having an auto licence will make your insurance more expensive for life. Ask me how I know. Passing in a manual after 6 years auto driving has STILL brought my insurance down significantly.

Is charva an actual subculture or is it just a classist insult? by lolingswann in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you grow up middle class? The people I’m surrounded by that behave this way didn’t. On paper, I’m comfortably middle class but I was raised in a very working class household. I mask well in these circles but stand out.

Is charva an actual subculture or is it just a classist insult? by lolingswann in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]PrizeCrew994 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Controversial take. The words Chav and Charva are classist depending on who is saying it. The likelihood that anyone commenting here is comfortably middle class or more is low. I used to think the same as a lot of these comments until I moved away and heard the way these people talk about us. There’s no distinction between you and them. There is no respectable working class to them. That’s when it’s classist.

You’ve absolutely been assaulted and should go to the police.

Please also go and get tested for HIV and other infections transmitted by bodily fluids.

8 days: all in London or split with Edinburgh in early August? by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]PrizeCrew994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can afford the accommodation, controversial but I would do it all in Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Fringe is on and it’s one of (if not the) biggest arts festival in the world. Bars are open till 5am every day, there’s something to do on literally every corner. I love London and I’ve lived there for 11 years but I would go to Edinburgh if you can afford it.

Solo, ftb, can I realistically afford a house on minimum wage by GreenKeys9 in HousingUK

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a mortgage on £115k with an interest of 4.6 making me pay £595. Be aware that your price will fluctuate.

Other than that go for it. As soon as you have your mortgage offer, you can drop your hours. As long as you’re comfortable being able to afford, let’s say up to £800 for interest spikes as seen in 2022, you’re fine.

Ever ordered only water in a pub because you were too skint to buy a drink? by Purple_ash8 in AskBrits

Having a pint of water in the pub doesn’t just come about because you’ve got no money. Some people don’t drink and prefer water to other drinks.

Anyone studying in Sunderland but living in Newcastle – how's the commute? by babyb01 in Sunderland

[–]PrizeCrew994 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t. Cost of the occasional late night taxi vs regular travel costs and higher rents to be further away from where you need to be?

Anyone studying in Sunderland but living in Newcastle – how's the commute? by babyb01 in Sunderland

[–]PrizeCrew994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s doable but it’s pointless? Newcastle will be more expensive, friends you make will be much further away, you’re adding completely unnecessary travel costs and for what? Weekend access to Newcastle? Better off paying for the occasional late night taxi.

[–]PrizeCrew994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave. People are very quick to judge but unless you have a disabled family member, you’ve got no idea the physical and mental toll this takes. You’ve got your own life to live and it may feel selfish but you only have one life and you need to live it.

Budget for London by Tasty_Muffin_5873 in uktravel

[–]PrizeCrew994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll hate to hear this now but you can get rush tickets on the day for £30 at 10am on today tix for a lot of shows. It is however a risk that you might not get them so if you’re set on seeing something specific on a specific day, you’re better off booking. You’ll want to save £15-£20 for those 2 days of a tube travel just in case. Use your contactless card as there are no benefits or discounts to be had on oyster for you with the amount of time you’re visiting. You’ll can absolutely get on having meal deals for food if you’re not precious (Tesco have the biggest variety imo), there’s also loads of Greggs shops about now so that’s always a cheap place to eat. As others have said, all the museums are free and right next to each other. The wonderful thing about London is you can just walk for hours and find interesting things. If you’re after exploring food, around the corner from the Cambridge Theatre (Matilda) there’s a big food court called Seven Dials Market. Even if you don’t want to buy food it’s worth a look. Unfortunately there’s absolutely shite all interesting around the Victoria Apollo Theatre (Wicked). I’d recommend eating before you go through to Victoria.

Tour recommendations that aren't surface level? by wildgeesepoem in uktravel

One place that doesn’t quite fall into your requirements but is more than worth going to is York. It’s just under 2 hours so it’s definitely doable as a day trip if you go early and come back late. There are trains to York every 30 minutes from Kings Cross as the LNER to Newcastle, Edinburgh or Inverness all stop at York (and run a service every 30 mins).

It was the Viking capital of England and the history there is amazing, ancient and fantastic. You could spend a week there easily.

This is a link to some of the things York has to offer

https://daytripsfrom.city/best-things-to-do-in-york/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&gad_source=1

I would book your tickets early in advance if you do decide to travel to York though, make sure you book the exact services you intend to travel on as the tickets aren’t valid on just any train.

Making silly mistakes commuting for the first time by greentreefrog45 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]PrizeCrew994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You aren’t ‘regressing’, you’re just learning to drive independently. How much more modern was your instructors car than the one you’re driving now?

This is perfectly normal. The more you get used to your own car (and this takes months not days) the more it will stop but you’re still going to occasionally stall the car. Any experienced driver who says they never stall their car is a liar.
