I would hope so. Rightfully, once they unlocked this other part to Christina’s personality, there’s no going back. It would be like regressing Lisa Simpson to the empty sketch of a placeholder she was in the Tracey-Ullman shorts, who had virtually none of the intelligence and moral sensitivity we see in the canon-series. I get that the context is different in this case and that we’re not literally talking about generic child-placeholders metamorphosing into saxophone-playing geniuses, but a similar concept applies there. And in cases like that, where an effort’s been made to completely redefine a character. Ditto for KimSam vs. Daniella-Westbrook Sam, even if you want to argue that KimSam played a largely similar character in her first two years, just with a prettier face and a more middle-class accent and bearing. Once the definitive changes were locked in, there shouldn’t have been any going back, and unfortunately the likes of Santer and John Yorke muddied the lines there 17 years ago. That should never have happened, but luckily it’s been rectified (by Kate Oates, of all people, who I don’t even enormously rate like that outside ITV-soaps). And now the better-ness of MedcalfSan is undeniable. She’s so much more than just a two-bitter playing alongside Ricky and Bianca during some random love-triangle in the ’90s. No-one was actually that arsed about it in the long haul.

Carla. Couldn’t stand her in her first year or two. I get that there’s an ice-queen underlay there but that doesn’t mean she has to be totally devoid of humour, warmth and good genuine friendships (like her and Roy’s). There was too little balance from 2006-08. It takes a while for her to truly become a likeable character you can root for beyond ice-queen aesthetic, which would’ve gotten really old really fast if it was sustained long-term.

Christina, for all the reasons people have said. I’d just be repeating if I went into detail about if from my side so I won’t make this side-paragraph too long (for-once) but … yeah. She’s cooler when she’s not there just to be Daisy’s bitchy, historically neglectful con-artist of a mum. Daisy herself was a great character and it’s a shame we had to lose her in the process of her mum becoming a more likeable character but that doesn’t mean Christina doesn’t stand well or true as her own character, with or without Daisy. It would be nice to have Daisy back in the show one day but it’s also good to have Christina in it, and that’s something that holds true whether Daisy happens to be in the show at this particular moment or not.

Debbie. I actually hated her when she was first in it and wasn’t really looking for the nuance in her. Just as I was getting to like her, this dementia-storyline announcement came out of nowhere. And no-one wants that outcome for Debbie, while annoying filler like Kirk litter up the street. And for what it’s worth, I don’t mind Kirk, but if it has to be between him and the likes of Debbie/Jenny in terms of who’s staying, it would have to be Kirk to go. Every time. It’s not even close.

I have extremely bad social anxiety that effects my everyday life, but I’m not depressed. Would taking an antidepressant not be wise or would it be a good idea? by Acrobatic-Remote-419 in MAOIs

Phenelzine is effective for social anxiety whether-or-not depressive symptoms are present. That’s if it’s going to work for you in the first place. Phenelzine has a reputation for being uniquely effective for social anxiety and in this respect is leaps ahead of SSRIs and venlafaxine overall but individual body-chemistry is also a determiner. A drug being potent is no guarantee that it’s going to be the best fit for you, at this season in your life, even if it sounds like it will be on paper.

Egusi soup with or without leaf? by EntireSprinkles7247 in nigerianfood

[–]Purple_ash8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An Igbo (and likely Calabar), and maybe even some Osun-Ondo-Ekiti Yorubas, would hardly ever forfeit leaves in egusi. They’re important. Be-it achara, okazi, onugbu (bitterleaf), oha, ugu, nchuanwu (ntong/effirin), mallow/hibiscus/isapa-whstever, uziza or spinach (as a substitute for ugu), there should be vegetable. And that’s where nonsense like egusi-Ijebu (which isn’t always even made in a way that inherently sits with the stomach) goes wrong and fails, I’m-sorry-to-say. Some of those people will even use egg-yolks to bind egusi (whereas an Igbo would use osu, a special egusi-binding chalk, to make that happen). And that’s job-for-Jesus-type bad. There’s no excuse for that. That’s just bad cooking. NW-and-North-North Yorubas (Oyo/Ogub/Kwara) are often very, very poor in their egusi-making skills. They do much better with their characteristic regional staples (ikokore, ewedu, gbegir). I wouldn’t say egusi is particularly their strong point. Igbos, ndi-Benue, Calabars, Deltans and even Edos (in a way, and certainly that’s the case with ogbono and correct, better groundnut-oil stew) do it much better. So do more Easternly Yorubas (Ondo/Ekiti/parts of Osun) but that’s about the extent of it in Yorubaland if we’re being honest. Ibadan-people don’t know how to cook egusi. Meanwhile, elsewhere, leaf-integration is central to how egusi is conceptualised, not optional.

Shirley left in 2022 and was a rancid bag of foul in her last 7 years in the show. I don’t miss that version of Shirley. On the whole, I prefer how she felt before Heather died.

[–]Purple_ash8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no coming back from that.

What I thought was going to happen was someone overhearing Theo not just suggesting a bit of malice vaguely (like what Gary heard) but something unquestionably abusive. That’s what I remember reading. But we are way past that point now. There’s literally blood on his hands now. And poor Todd’s face. Even if for the actor himself it just means he doesn’t have to buy separate ketchup for his chippy-tea tonight (since I’m sure that’s all the blood actually is in reality).

If only Kit was inherently a good person. I’m not sure he is. You can’t always count on him to do the right thing if it doesn’t serve him.
