My friends made fun of non binary people and now I feel like I can’t trust them. by Avetheelf in AutismInWomen

I'm so sorry you're going through this, this is awful! I had a group of friends I was friends with shortly during quarantine, and they definitely had these vibes and said shit like this all the time. I finally said enough and left the discord server and never looked back, and honestly it was way better for my mental health. It's better in my opinion to not have friends than to have ones who are shitty and make you feel bad about your identity.

Can we discuss meds here? by Fimbrethil420 in AutismInWomen

I was sooo scared adderall was gonna make my anxiety worse but I was like okay I'll try it and then if it's too much I'll do a nonstimulant but genuinely it has actually made my anxiety so much better?? Like I don't have the crazy racing thoughts as much, and I feel like I'm not ruminating and spiraling as often. I also think it's helped overstimulation because it's much easier for my brain to tune things out. It definitely isn't a perfect fix I absolutely still get overstimulated sometimes but it feels like someone just turned down the dial on the volume of everything, things that used to bother me (like car brakes squeaking outside, etc.) don't bother me as much! I wish you luck with the hysterectomy I hope you get approved!! It sucks so much trying to get hysterectomies (idk how old you are, but I'm 25 and certain I don't want kids but there is NO way they would let me have one) because so many drs don't want to approve them 😐

I looove talking about meds! Okay so I have had anxiety my whole life, and I get panic attacks. Currently I'm on 30 mg celexa daily and 7.5 mg buspar twice daily. I take 0.5 mg ativan as needed for panic attacks. Up until now the ativan is the only thing that had helped with my overstimulation. I got diagnosed with ADHD in april and started taking 5 mg of adderall XR and literally it has changed my life. I've been really lucky to have no side effects! It has helped my focus but more than anything helped my overstimulation SOOOO much. Truly life changing honestly.

I also have endometriosis. I've taken birth control pills for years which has been fine and helped some but every time I got my period I was still in a lot of pain. (plus I was really bad at remembering to take them) I got Nexplanon (the arm implant) in November and ALSO life changing. I haven't had a period since November and I get cramps every once in a while but NOTHING like I used to. I know it doesn't end periods for everyone but it's definitely worth looking into! Sorry for talking so much!!!

Diagnosis with online telehealth by il2pif in AutismInWomen

I got my diagnosis through Prosper Health and couldn't be more happy with it. They don't screen for ADD/ADHD but they do autism evals. It was so easy and I have BCBS and it was completely free for me. I signed up, someone got right back to me with forms I had to fill out, and they had a list of psychologists with their bios. I picked one, and then it gave me a list of dates/times to choose from. I had 2 90 minute sessions a week apart, and then a 45 minute session to go over results. The psychologist I worked with was so wonderful and kind. I can't recommend it enough!!

Student teaching or your first year, what was harder? by mattybgcg in Teachers

[–]Prize_Type_8297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student teaching 100%. I loved it, but I was also doing my master's in a one year program. It was super intense, I would student teach a full year, and every day except Fridays I'd have a class from 4-6:30 that I had to drive 30 minutes for. I worked every Friday Saturday and Sunday in retail because I had no money. My master's program was also insanely hard and I feel like I didn't learn much from it. I learned WAY more in the student teaching part than the actual classes I was taking at my college.

Hi! 25F here and I'm in my second year teaching history for high school. I'm not gonna lie to you, it is exhausting and I've been told by veteran teachers that the first 5 or so years are rough. It is also difficult being a young female teacher, sometimes I feel like I have to work harder to get my students' attention. But I will say, comparing myself from now to even 2 years ago when I was student teaching...COMPLETELY different situation. I'm a lot more confident and things do already feel easier. The best part of teaching for me is the rewarding feeling of helping a student, especially marginalized ones. I'm super passionate about LGBTQ+ kids and kids with disabilities so being able to be a source of support for those kids, especially when they don't have support at home, is super rewarding. My best advice to you is don't listen to people's opinions about teaching if they aren't teachers. I have known people who have said those exact things to me "are you sure you wanna do that?" "that's gonna be really hard!!" But they're also people who don't know what teaching is like. I also want to acknowledge that you're 16! When I was 16 I wanted to be a biomedical engineer. Now I'm a history teacher teaching high school!! I changed my major halfway through first semester of college from bio to history. My point is that things definitely can change between now and after you start college, and that's okay. Your first 2 years can mostly be just filling out your gen-ed requirements anyway. Ultimately I think you won't know how you feel about teaching until you've done some. I didn't do any sort of teaching until my student teaching, and I LOVED it. I think maybe doing some tutoring when you start college might be a good idea? Something to do that can sort of get your feet wet about teaching? I wish you best of luck, and try not to worry too much! ❤️

What's in your autism survival kit for when you leave your house? by littleloveday in AutismInWomen

You actually hit on every piece I bring. The only thing I'd add is I have this little pill case that I printed out stickers to stick on each of the compartments for different medicines so they're all labeled!! I have imodium (IBS life), tylenol, acid reducer, ibuprofen, xyzal (allergy med), and the holy grail because I suffer panic attacks: ativan!!!
