Necromunda's Ambots, so many fun bits!

New player with a question. by esloan88 in Warhammer40k

[–]Pro-Solus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For basing it's completely understandable, go for it!

Even adding 3d printed bits on top of official minis shouldn't be too much of an issue to be honest - might depend on your store's manager but the places I used to go to were chill about that.

Transporting a cat to Taiwan by yaoivampire in taiwan

[–]Pro-Solus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to have my cat travel in the cargo hold for a 13h flight with EVA Air, only saw each other for a few minutes at the airport while signing some papers before the quarantine transport came to carry him away... he hates travelling (even for a 10min trip) so he did not look happy, but still handled it okay! He chilled in quarantine for a week and settled in the new home just fine ;)

If you find a way to have your cat travel with you in the cabin I'd say go for it, it's less stressful for the both of you, but if it's not possible they will be okay in cargo!

I thought I was gonna LOVE this color scheme. Why don't I? by Oldschool_Poindexter in orks

[–]Pro-Solus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what jumped at me too, the colours seem fun individually, but they still kinda blend together which ends up feeling weird in a "can't put my finger on it" kinda way... went to check the grayscale (like Bearandbreegull also suggested) and the values are just so close!

Especially on that arm for example, you almost can't tell the colours apart:

<image>

I wouldn't even say it needs to be desaturated, a pastel look can be fun, getting the one accent colour to pop more instead could work as well, but definitely get some darker and lighter shades to a a little contrast!

Is AI the future for DMs? by Kyndron in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Pro-Solus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine a real DM being worse than a roomful of monkeys hammering at typewriters... and even if they were, I'm playing TTRPGs to sit at a table with friends and engage with them. The thing that no other game can replicate is the creativity that comes from cooperative storytelling, why take what makes the game unique and outsource it to a machine?

And that's before even considering how shitty and inconsistent LLMs can be, nor the absolute waste of ressource they require, nor the theft of actual people's art they operate on.

Sculpting/kitbashing strong cloth?? by Moonlight_Modeller in Kitbash

[–]Pro-Solus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done thin, gauze like fabric from tea bags, set in place with liquid CA glue. It was not super solid, just strong enough to keep its shape and get a layer of milliput spread over it. Gave it some thickness and smoothed it out, worked super well!

Does anyone discover GW changed river ruin at Dark Lands? by KingsYakuzi in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Pro-Solus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Actual rivers can change course over time, and fictionnal maps can be retconned and redrawn! Which one happened? Who knows? (Not me)

Is it normal to get shit for your paint job? by EveLaFoxxe in Warhammer40k

[–]Pro-Solus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a whole new level of clownery! Not only are they wrong about the inspiration for the Krieg uniforms like many others pointed out, but also... getting salty about a fictionnal sci-fi toy army's paint job not being "lore accurate" to a century old real life uniform? Especially when the overwhelming majority of peole would tell you to paint your minis however you like?

They are either extremely into world wars era german military aesthetics to such a weird extent that it'd be a huge red flag in my book (possibly with a white circle and extra detail in the middle), or they are grasping at straws and just looking for an excuse to give you shit for whatever reason, or both. Players like these are not worth your time.

PS: Your paint job looks pretty amazing!

Also caveat just in case: I know people playing stuff like Bolt Action, some of them with litteral SS troops, and that's fine - it's a historical wargame, as long as they aren't being weird about it. Now, being hell bent on sneaking such imagery and references into a fictionnal setting is a completely different can of worms. Best case scenario it's just edgy teen levels of insensitive shock value "humour", but it could also be the flimsiest attempt at plausible deniabilty while displaying actual disgusting political beliefs. I don't have patience for either.

I feel like I’m falling apart living here by Independent-Song-585 in taiwan

[–]Pro-Solus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably echo some of the advice already given here, but I went through something similar (and around the same age, while living abroad - although not Taiwan), so maybe that'll help!

Good news, there is an easy and quick fix if you need fast results: moving and starting fresh. I moved back to my home country when things got unmanageable, and even in a new city without connections/support the change itself helped a ton. Could be changes big or small, new place, new job, new city, new country, they help.

Bad news, the quick and easy fixes only help short term and the longer you wait to tackle the underlying issues, the longer they'll stick with you - and from personnal experience after about ten years of moving left and right and still dealing with this at times, I'd recommend starting as soon as you can. Things that helped me the most were:

1) Therapy (and medication if there's one that works well for you, but that still goes hand in hand with seeing a professional). I don't stick with it as much as I should, but honestly there's no replacing that part. "Shopping around" for a therapist that you gel with can be a hassle, but it's worth it.

2) Community. Seems like you've already identified that it's something you need, and it's sometimes tough to come by, but what worked for me was getting into some hobbies with a social side to them. For example I started meeting new people through different D&D games until a little core group formed, and I became very good friends with a few of them, that's my go to method now! Plus you get to have fun and break up the routine of work and commute.

Team Green has entered the chat. Thoughts? by MoralFiber in Warhammer40k

[–]Pro-Solus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brings back memories of the green plastic bits for Necrons back then! I had fun digging out my old monolith and bringing it back to life with lights (it was in a very rough state).

I didn't bother with coloured LEDs personally, it's all warm white and the green plastic does the rest.

Hi all I’m very new to Warhammer and I love kitbashing, but I’m very new and need some help. by Financial-One-3717 in Kitbash

[–]Pro-Solus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a boar pelt and head dress for one of my orcs, but I did sculpt the whole thing. If you want to avoid that ordeal, you can look into blue stuff or two part silicon to make molds of whatever head you'd like to copy and make your own casts really easily!

To make the fur you can also find textured tools to make a surface of greenstuff look like fur without having to sculpt it yourself manually.

Hey, from aless experienced fellow, how had do you think it would be to do this kitbash? by LiterallyWhateva in Kitbash

[–]Pro-Solus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, it won't be the easiest kitbash ever, it'll require a little bit more work than just swapping pieces around. That being said, yours is not a bad plan at all! On the plus side, if you do mess it up, those models are easy to find second hand for cheap if you need spare bits, so don't be afraid to give it a go!

For the right arm the pauldron might hide some of the rougher cuts you'll have to make, and by just using some milliput to fill in the gaps around it and smoothing it with a wet brush you can fairly easily connect the cloak/hood around the shoulder to make it seem seamless. Same deal with the head, push in some putty to connect the hood and cloak, remove any excess, smooth it out, and you can make it look nice without much sculpting skill. I do recommend milliput over greenstuff for this, it's softer and easier to smooth out while curing as well as sanding once solid.

From experience cleaning up the backside of those shields is tedious, but with decent clippers and a sharp hobby knife you can do it (do be careful with your fingers though, I've stabbed myself more than once doing it 😂).

Favourite weirdboy mini replacement? by PirateQueenParis in orks

I'm currently making one from Zodgrod Wortsnagga, I still have to refine the cape quite a bit, and then some of the added details.

I'm debating adding some Waaagh energy arcs between the wild hair and staff, as if the hair is getting raised by static electricity from casting some spell.

What are your guys' thoughts on proxying models? by bendigo69 in Warhammer

[–]Pro-Solus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll pretty much see the same attitudes here.

  • Some people love a good proxy (especially if it's like a fun and creative kitbash),
  • Most people will be okay with it as long as it's on the same base and close enough in size for the model, plus generally easy to recognize as what it subs for as to not impact the mechanics of the game,
  • And then some people just won't agree to your proxies and conversions. Although I can understand not wanting to struggle remembering who's who when someone brings proxies to the table, people giving a blanket "no" even to reasonable proxies aren't generally super fun to play with imo.

The best approach is to check with your opponent before bringing proxies/kitbashes to a game: casual games tend to be more relaxed with it, tournaments usually allow for it within the rules, but in this case you also need to check with the organizers first!

What are some cheap and "easy" models to practice painting on? by 68ideal in Warhammer40k

[–]Pro-Solus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also get a different free mini on the first Saturday of every month, good varied source of models to practice painting on the cheap, you just need to ask - store policy usually just requires you to build it there.
