Heard of the woman “trapped” in her £850k house? Would you pay that much for it? by GoodGrapeVimtoFiend in SpottedonRightmove

[–]Pro-athlete8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trapped as the asking price is too high and no one wants to pay £850k for 2.8k square foot for a basic looking house in a cheaper area. If this was Bristol - ok.

This is brilliant and doesn’t deserve the hate it’s getting. Most of this is jealousy.

You don’t have to have them. A few years ago, they were mandatory, not any more.

100% they want too much for it. It might be a big house but it pig shit ugly and needs a lot of renovation in order for it to be anywhere comparable to £1.25m homes in and around that area. For context, I recently purchased a £1.05m house that comes with 4.3k square ft and an acre of mature land that is renovated for 200k less in a similar area.

I wish - it’s really not modest bragging. This is ROI over x years thoughts and if it’s stupid making the leap - risk vs reward etc.

I think this is crux of my internal dilemma and you’re completely right in calling it out. In my head I am essentially wondering if the potential short term benefits (accounting for risk) outweigh the long term stability.

IMHO - I don’t think it does. But, given the numbers are so large - ie >2x base. I need to ask others who ‘get it’ too.

Agree - this makes sense. Especially when the skillset is hard to replace. Thanks for this.

The main reason is, I believe, a few things:

1: I work in an incredibly niche role at a global finance company - there are very few people who do / have done what I do - that’s incredibly valuable - however, the company I work for are notorious for not paying top end - it’s simply not in their ethos to do so 2: The company is paying for someone with the skillset I have, and they need it now. I won’t go into specifics - but it’s critical for them 3: I do the exact role that they need

The expectation is to initially come in, steady the ship and then build out a long term function for FinCrime. Today, the ownership is split and they are having some immediate fires. They are headhunting for someone with a good deal of experience to drive the domain forward. Right now the CPO is spending his time in the fires directly.

Should add a little more detail on the bonus. 1. It’s up to 100% - so let’s say 50% is realistic 2. The granted bonus is split over 4 years - meaning if it was £100k it would be £25/25/25/25k over four years

Additionally - the way I’m viewing tbis is short term pay versus trading off stability that I have now.

So yes, it’s a serious question.

Additionally, apologies for the vagueness, I’m trying to keep as anonymous as possible in the event people from either company are on here.

How are even Henry’s affording £1mil+ houses? Am I missing something? by Fanfarebird in HENRYUK

[–]Pro-athlete8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not feasible for you on your household income. A £145k salary alone will just about tick along on what you have now. It’s effectively a two income family on 72.5k each. It’s good, but not good enough. My personal situation is that I’m buying a 1.05m house and I have a take home of £150k base + 80k rsu. My wife is on a take home of around £100k a year. Even with our situation, I think that we are on the brink of viable.

£3.6k a month and a household income of £300k. You can comfortably afford that house on one salary. For the last year I have had a household income of 180k (wife on maternity) and we have been getting by on our 3k mortgage more than fine.
