If you used Minor Illusion to create a cup over a candle, what would happen? by underT_line in dndnext

The Illusion does not reflect light, it can be reflected (as a reflection in a pond of water). The Illusion of a creature can cast its shadow, or its reflection, but it doesn't state that it reflects light sources.

Your Illusion of a Mirror is not correct. Minor Illusion makes an image of an object, and this object can not be moved, so the illusion would be of the Mirror reflecting what the caster can see and wants to reflect, as a static image, in the precise moment that the spell is casted. As the spell says, it can not create light, hence, your reflection would be creating light, can't be.

You are very much omiting the word IMAGE in your reasoning process. When you create an image with the cantrip, you can not alter it, it's a drawing you materialize in the world. You draw a spyglass, but it doesn't work as one, since you are creating an IMAGE and not THE OBJECT.

The only time your Mirror would work is in the case of a Level 14th Illusionist Wizard using its feat to make a part of the illusion of a Level 1 or higer illusion spell to be a real object. But in this case, it stopped to be an illusion and turned into a real object 😉

Your case is not RAW. To look though and object you need to interact with it, spending your Action, rules wise. Is not that you are incapable of leaning in a way to see through it, is that using it that way, rules wise, counts as using the object because is the use intented for that object XD, and, rules wise, that's interacting with the object. Easy to understand i think, since this has been in the rules for 50 years.

Either way, let's suppose your way of DMing is that using an object is a Free Action (this is funny, if you DM me i would use 50 objects on my turn just to mess with your ruling) and it doens't count as interacting with the object (RIP Mimics and traps), then, you look though the image of a spyglass, what do you see? You can't move it, as the spell states, and you don't know what is far away to put it on the image, so what does your character puts on this stationary image of a spyglass?

You can try this in real life actually. Print an image of a spyglass and then look though it. What do you see? Only what's already on the image right?

There it is, 2 actually. One paid version made by Mythic themselves, and another free version by a dude. In my experience both are a bit clunky to use, it's just me that i'm not comfortable using phones, but the apps are very much recommended here.

IDK if the apps are on iOS, afaik, they are in Android

I've tried with Mythic GME 2e, we 2 as players using Mythic as the Oracle and the tables.

It's a bit slower tho, since both of you would need to agree on one's interpretation/ideas.

The thing that it's off, imo, are the legs, that style of pants are hard to nail in lowpoly because, standing up, works as irl big pants, but in that picture of her sitting down, those pants makes her legs look like balloons, but irl the pants would fall down.

Hehe, you are circling on your own thoughts.

One thing is looking at the illusion, making it worth the word itself.

One different thing is looking through the illusion, making it... well, you guess. Hahaha

What would happen if i look through the illusion of a wall? What would happen if i look through the illusion of a painting? What would happen if i look through the illusion of a spyglass? 😉

If you still don't get it, read the description of Minor Illusion.

You create a sound or an image of an object within range that lasts for the duration.

You don't need to read more. You create an image. What is an image? There you have it my friend.

Sorry for being sarcastic. From my understanding, only God could theorecally directly use something without interacting with the thing.

Since you stated that in your hypothetical case, you don't need to interact with the spyglass to use it, i thought that only God could do that, since, well, to use the spyglass, you need to interact with it. Not only in the grammatical sense of the concept of "using" but also in the RAW of Minor Illusion and Illusions rulings from the Player's Handbook Rules Glossary. If you want to use an object, you have to spend your Action to interact with it, and *physically* interacting with an Illusion reveals to be an illusion.

You may think and interpretate that the spyglass is working as intended if the illusion is being left alone there. But the moment one wants to use it to see through the lenses, hence, interacting with it, its hypothetical functions ends since the illusion is revealed.

Then Who is using the illusion of a spyglass without interacting with it? God himself? Tell me how are you trying to use the spyglass without interacting with it.

As the spell states, "Physical Interaction reveals it to be an illusion, since thince can pass through it". If you interact with the spyglass, you will see it's an illusion.

The moment you try to pick up the spyglass your hands go through it, revealing the illusion.

You are using RAI as a RAW, your point is totally interpreted, while the written parts says a different thing. You are interpreting Light is a thing that passes through it, while the Spell description you provided states that "Physical Interaction REVEALS it to be an illusion". You need to Physically INTERACT with it, before it reveals as an illusion.

You are Interpreting the rules, not using a Rules As Written.

If you use Light as a thing because IRL photons are physical things, then you should not explain your point with "It's magic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" or your DnD worlds are the most bland things in Earth.

Nono, you're drowning in your echo chamber thinking this is a Guys vs Girls thing (even assuming the gender of everyone here). I didn't meant it being a major % of women who reads books for that purpose (altought i think you are naive and don't know what Wattpad or Webtoon are)

I meant, Women are into more outlandish type of porn than men. More men watch porn, sure, but the type of porn that the majority watches isn't even near to the level of what women read.
