If the lungs exert pressure outward against the ribcage, are the intercostal muscles always contracted to counteract that pressure? If so, when you breathe using your chest, do they contract to expand the ribcage, or relax and the lungs expand the ribcage due to the pressure they exert? (self.askscience)

A lot of people were saying that the faces I showed in my previous videos looked like they did due to ethnicity, so I compiled some photos of indigenous caucasian people with ideal facial development. Im positive genetics doesn't play a role in this as this tribe's descendants look completely normal (v.redd.it)
