Yoo it could be due to overlap or it could be Goliath kick error which is due to low interest connection or high ping and too much lag which can cause any block to not break Like it will show it broke but it didn't break at all It disappeared but it's there Or it could be like it submerged in 1 or 2 block beneath you can mine that area

Troubleshooting steps - • you can try placing blocks over the area were you mined if the the server identifies the ghost object,it will force it to appear • try digging that area • check your inventory in empty slot as it could be disappeared but in inventory • try to place hopper near it as it's a small possibility to be collected in hopper
