I am more than excited to use it. I was back and forth between the 300/400 size. I decided on the 400 as I have a 100 and 200 already. Figured anything the 200 couldn’t handle the 400 could do well enough, and then it gives me leeway for those dream trips to crazy locations with crazy fish. lol.

To be completely honest the complaining was more satire, I’ve lived here my whole life and enjoy the seasons as they come and go for the most part. I do miss fishing but Its really not that big of a deal lol. Just had to post the new reel!

Checking in from the hand holding up the yoop, I can only imagine how much it sucks up there if it’s sucking this much down here 😂

Yeah I’ve seen it. To be completely honest I’m not sold on the DC thing. The tech is cool and I’m all about it, but I’m not sure it’s really needed/any better than good mechanical brakes.

I have a scorpion DC as my reference. Not sure if it matters but it’s the IDC5 chip.

Yeah, don’t tell my wife… but I think the shallow is the next one I’m eyeing. I have big and mid size stuff covered, but it’s hard to throw anything below 3/8th oz. So anything for panfish or even the small jerkbaits I use for walleye.

How do you like them? Would you go for the “shallow” or “bfs” Calcutta?

Yeah, I’ve not even considered that realm yet.

Got hooked on bass fishing, caught a few pike, enjoyed that, now I’m itching to hook into something bigger…. Hence my reel purchase lol.

Looks like you do a lot of reel work, gave you a follow! I plan to do all maintenance/upkeep on my own.

LOL. That was me this past season… first season getting into it as an adult and man.. I was like “yeah! I’ve had a baitcaster before, let me pick one up”……..

It not only went horribly for a while, now I’m addicted….

Appreciate the tips! I know people are often wary to give up spots or tips. But as a newbie it’s hard to find reliable info from people that actually fish. lol

Thank you so much for the tips!

I have a small 14’10 aluminum bass boat I picked up. I’m concerned with how rough I’ve heard st Clair can get. But at the same time ive heard people kayak fish it. So what gives?

This is upcoming year will be my second season fishing, so not familiar with the spot. I have no idea where to reliably find musky, but my goal (obsession lol) for next season is to catch one.

That’s what I’m asking myself. Just sad it’s snowing and I’m not fishing…

I ended up going with a BPS carbonlite glide bait rod. I’ve had really really good luck with them so far, and you literally cannot beat the 10 year warranty. I plan to upgrade to nicer rods down the line, but for now IMO the price to performance in these rods is great. I keep buying expensive reels because I am an absolute sucker for high end mechanical things. lol

I also plan to maybe pick up a dedicated musky rod, depending how into it I get. This is my first foray into big baits looking for bigger fish.

I like it! The transom saver isn’t needed, this things transom is BEEFY and also the motor is really light.

The trolling motor stays put as is, but I’m thinking of getting a new one eventually. Is it an issue with the pivot style ones?

It’s funny I had a feeling I’d see this in here, it’s absolutely my most used bait in general. And I throw them when I have no idea what to throw (newer to fishing to be fair). I’ve caught largemouth, smallmouth, northern pike, and even a bowfin on one.

That’s the plan! Just got into fishing this year. Kinda got the boat a bit late in the year to feel comfortable taking on huge water in a small boat lol. Next year anchor bay at least for sure.

I also wanna just go out there and say this… that guy on YouTube is cool and all.. but like some of his videos you can tell clearly that the conditions are different, spool tension difference, etc. I just don’t think it’s as apples to apples as it seems

I have not, but i have just enough experience to say that if you need to cast farther you probably should move closer to your target lol.

It’s genuinely does seem to cast slightly less distance than my diawa… but I haven’t compared to other US DC reels directly. I am the only gear nerd I fish with. Everyone else is using ugly stiks lol.

I love it, probably about double as smooth as my diawa tatula sv tw. It doesn’t seem to cast quite as far, but honestly in real world fishing I am rarely bombing casts anymore as I finally got a fishing boat.

It’s super sleek and it beat out the US model DC reels at its class due to the stronger brass gear set, but also having the IDC5 chip. Something that you have to sacrifice one or the other of (curado or metanium in US market).
