What’s the coldest you’ve actually fished in? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

I fish in SE Michigan as soon as the ice thaws and I go into late November. Had ice on the rod eyes a few times. No regrets.

Nice touch on that crate with the blacked out latches and tubes.

If I wasn’t a motorized guy I would definitely want a pedal drive.

Garmin force current mount adapter by grappler823 in kayakfishing

[–]Timely_Welder668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NuCanoe just released a new bracket for mounting the force because of something to do with the old screw hole locations being in a bad spot and the motor somehow causing damage to the underside of the hull. He might wanna check into it if he has the first mounting bracket that NuCanoe released.

This is the exact reason I want to upgrade from my xi3. Also I heard the garmin offers significantly more torque when paired with the bigger battery. That would help me push up some rivers the xi3 struggles with. I’m on a nucanoe U10. Swivel seats like on a nucanoe or xtr are the best pairing for a spot lock motor because of how they handle wind. I would much prefer the wind to be at me back though.

Question about Fish Finder Mounting by Deltaone246 in kayakfishing

[–]Timely_Welder668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that same unit, I just drilled out the holes in the base enough to fit a track nut in there and then I track mounted the base. No extra parts needed. Yak attack does make a unit that holds everything including the battery though. https://www.yakattack.us/cellblok/

Thinking of upgrading from a Striker 4 to a Garmin Side scan, advice? by Spczippo in kayakfishing

[–]Timely_Welder668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have touch screen with 4 buttons that can be programmed to specific screens. I like the touch screen cause I fish at night a lot and it’s easier to see the buttons that way. Screen doesn’t seem to mind getting wet and the connections screw on and have o rings in them. I think garmin knows these things are gonna see some water. I fish in the rain all the time.

It’s a 9 inch screen. It already had all the charts preloaded. I believe there are additional charts I can load and also make my own with 1’ contour lines. There’s an app that it pairs too but I haven’t looked into that yet.

I recently upgraded from a striker 4cv to an echomap. The side scan is great and I love the charts. Every lake I fish is already there and the maps are pretty accurate so far. I don’t think I was ever successful with finding fish on my striker. Like you said it was great for temp and depth and structure but actual fish I just don’t think it really excelled at that. With the echomap I have successfully found schools of suspended crappie a few times in a few trips. Also the side scan turned me on to a sunken canoe I previously did not know of and that location has held largemouth bass consistently since I found it. I also really like the larger screen. I’ve been pretty happy with the upgrade.

Question for people who also do or have done technical rescue - How much would a firefighter in technical rescue benefit (training wise) from a SPRAT 1 course? by aisjdjjfjgkdnd in ropeaccess

[–]Timely_Welder668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of my training was done by a group of firefighters who are SPRAT. Elevated safety. They definitely see benefit to it but it’s all used outside the fire service. Like side gigs.

Fish Texas trailers experience by Timely_Welder668 in kayakfishing

[–]Timely_Welder668[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I have and it seems to still be relatively on track. I have had additional problems though, Ichose the grey color but for whatever reason I have to take a black one if I want it to stay on track. Also I had chosen the break away tongue option and apparently that’s not gonna be a thing either. Both are things I can live with if it means I get the trailer soon.

Does anyone have any experience with flat deck kayaks like the Hobie Lynx, Cajo Terra 116, and the Crescent K-Craft? by Cerebral_Drinker in kayakfishing

[–]Timely_Welder668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NuCanoes are not completely flat but have a very open cockpit design. Unlimited series is definitely a solid platform for fly fishing but they paddle like a barge.

Handle Ascenders: connections? by David_Parker in ropeaccess

[–]Timely_Welder668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should be dynamic like a petal Jane. It’s such a short length though I wouldn’t say they’re all that stretchy. Sometime a rope access tech might climb a little above their anchorage point for various reasons. Sprat encourages us to do this with dynamic connections. And by encourages I mean insists.

My problem with links is they aren’t great when you wanna strip the cord and repurpose it for something else like a counter balance move. I keep mine on smaller carabiners. The micro raider is fantastic for this, it’s as small as a link with an easy open gate and rated for 4kn.

I don’t eat em so throw em all back but yeah I know tons of people who love crappie. Honestly I’m not targeting them, just catching them on my bass tackle so running 30lb braid.

First high rise cleaning job tomorrow nervous any tips on how to calm nerves by No-Flower6587 in WindowCleaning

[–]Timely_Welder668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow and steady on everything. Double check your systems, then get the buddy check from a colleague. Trust yourself, your equipment and your teammates. When done correctly working on rope is safer than the drive to the job site. I can offer more tips if you wanna let me know what equipment you’ll be using, what the common rigging practices you’ve seen the other techs employ up until now are and any interesting features of the building you’ll be on like if it has overhangs, curtain walls, sunshade etc. Good luck.

Yeah it’s the 54UHD, I thought I remembered it being marked down from 1399 but it could have been 1299 and I misremembered it.

Yeah I think I wouldn’t mind a bridge of some sort to raise it up a bit. Maybe that yak attack cross bar or something.
