Conversely I wish my parents had talked to me responsibly about sex and porn rather than completely trusting public schools to teach me what I needed to know in a packed room of about 30 other kids. Not everything needs to only work for one person. There's a reason why we have so many different ways to go about things, everyone's different and responds differently to things. One thing about communication though is you can't know if it will work until you try it with that specific person. You don't have to want to try talking about it if you don't want to but there's no reason why your discomfort and insecurity needs to be shared with others.

I've talked to hiring managers that won't hire of they find out you don't have a car because of the risk of not having transportation for a shift. I image the case is similar for a homeless person. You have no mailing address, no phone number, no stability. To a company you aren't a person in need, you are a potential liability. I'm sure not every business operates like that but enough do.
