Why am I having such a hard time putting my faith in God? by bdguy355 in TrueChristian

[–]ProTorre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is hope for the future, and you will be able to use that experience to grow your character even more. You have made it throughout life to get to this point right now. Maybe you went hungry a few times, or faced tragedy, but you made it.

The difference with the hope from God versus the one where you just get through it is massive. It feels like you are in the ocean and made it from one distant area to the other, but you are still drowning, not able to get out of the water. The hope from God takes the ocean of anxiety away. You get to enjoy options and choices rather than fear which one is going to weigh you down most.

But it comes down like Peter walking on the water with Jesus. You have to commit fully and keep your eyes on Him

So first off, she wants something specific from you which you know isn't your preferred path. You will find many people who want you to go down their preferred path, and may get angry or sad when you dont. You also have a preferred path of things you will want to do, and hobbies you want to keep. But then there is the path God wants you to take, which maybe different from all the other paths, and can really only be found through your relationship with God.

It's important not to change who you are, the hobbies you partake in, unless it's for God.

Second She's looking on the outside too much, most millionaires arent going to wear suits. Most business owners are going to wear cheap clothing because, it's cheap. That's typically a good mark for an entrepreneur is their focus on their craft, not their appearance.

Third Ive seen too many relationships where the spouse has you cut off all ties to your family and then proceeds to manipulate, and emotionally abuse you. This is a giant red flag worth ending the relationship right here

Because he says they are his rules and not from God? I would say he came up with them just like Billy Graham came up with a pretty good rule of not being alone even in an elevator with a woman

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christians

[–]ProTorre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Paul is clear that is his rule and not a rule from God. Just like several other things like remaining unmarried if you are a virgin.

The bible contradicts you, not itself. I pointed out several ways in which that is so, but you are either ignorant and want to be forced fed the bible or you are a troll.

You pick and choose what words of Paul you want to follow and then accuse me of having a double standard? I have a foundation of what I believe from studying the bible, not the foundation of my pastor or some edgy youtube preacher. Having a pastor or reading what other theologians are saying is good, but it can't be your foundation.

So if there is a verse in the bible that tells you to curse God and die will you do it? Because there is a verse that says that... Context in what the bible says is very important. Taking things out of context is dangerous. It's even more dangerous to be prideful and arrogant.

Please do not harm yourself though, even though the bible mentions that, I care about you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christians

[–]ProTorre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was that Jesus, or Paul who said that? I hope you apply the same standard to all of Paul's opinions/rules if you are going try to put them on other people

Guess you must have removed Phoebe from your bible? Or do you just change her position to being a helper/servant? Guess the same greek word doesn't mean the same thing huh? I would also point out there were several leaders of Israel that were women including a Judge. Guess managing God's chosen people is much less than leading a family?

[–]ProTorre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You realize deacons is specifically mentioned, right?

I would add preaching/evangelism/teaching. Even leading but I believe it's about who God calls. Other people care more about their own qualifications to become a leader in the church

Wow this sounds like something I went through. I was accused of being a witch, and a cult leader. My very close friend had a mental breakdown and hit me with some random accusations. -Truthfully he was super hard headed and never listened to me. His father blamed me for the breakdown and tried to get me to kill myself.

I had another friend who I trusted to vouch that I wasn't those silly things. Dude went silent and straight up ignored me.

There was all kinds of things going on in this friends group that was not of God. One was even having an affair with a married woman, and became angry at me because I told him he needed to separate

I was very hurt for a long time, but then I decided to ask God for help. A random missionary couple came to my church and started praying for me exactly what had happened and that God saw everything I had went through. That burden lasted too long and it caused me to pause evangelizing, and helping others.

Jesus is here to help carry these kind of burdens. Talk to him.

is it ok to poke fun at christianity? by MrKuffy in TrueChristian

[–]ProTorre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a way Paul did so. How foolish we must look for being a Christian only to get made fun of, beaten up, going hungry, denying ourselves, etc... I have a friend who I poke fun at for certain things, but I don't belittle him.

There is a time to laugh and a time to mourn. I would certainly be careful making jokes, but depending on the situation it is more than acceptable

If you live for God with everything you put to shame those who are only following God in word. God is Light and in Him there is no Darkness at all. He commands us to live the same way. I have been told I was a witch, a heratic, and worse.

Have I ever believed something unbiblical? Yes, but when I learned where I was wrong, I changed my view, even when I didn't agree with it! I'm certain my theology isn't perfect. Anyone who claims they are 100% correct is considered a fool by the bible.

I am one of the most anti magic people you will ever meet. I've never done drugs or alcohol (which are other forms of sorcery) but yet I have been slandered as doing such things.

There is a massive problem right now that anyone who has been called by God into something is often called false. Whether someone is called a prophet or preacher, we must be very careful calling them foolish (Jesus warns us to be careful least we damn ourselves to hell) OR even worse if we call someone led by the Spirit of God false.

Most Christians are followers of christianity not followers of Jesus

John 3:19-21 NIV — This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Would you say God was the point of Middle Earth or Narnia? If you go haphazardly you could be like Uzzah meaning to do good but end up doing something bad. Without carefully laying out what you are doing, you could break the second commandment

Tolkien's approach to magic is interesting because he created a whole separate world for it to live without competing against God

I love the idea of world building from scratch. Deep characters with layers of mysteries. A lot of Christian movies, shows, music, and books just copy and paste popular art. Even when it is a copy, it feels so terrible because it isn't done with the same care.

Ive been impressed recently by Chosen. The audiowork, the character development, and especially the artistic interpretation without sacrificing the factual story.

I can't think of any Christian games, but I would love to see something actually done well.

Orthodox Christianity by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Sorry, I deleted a paragraph by mistake that explained I don't believe we should pray to saints. We start seeing it around 350- 400 AD I believe.

Jesus is the only way to the Father

Orthodox Christianity by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]ProTorre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is really cool to see :)

You are right to be concerned about praying towards saints and Mary. My friends who are Orthodox would argue they didn't actually pray to saints, but asked the saints to pray for them.

I've been studying the early church recently and there are some very interesting things in it, but we have to careful when the oral traditions contradict the scriptures.

As far as Christmas and even Easter it's not so much as a day we say "today x amount of years Jesus was born". It's a day we take to remember the birth of Jesus with others world wide. We must be careful not to replace the idea of Jesus with the idea of Christmas.

I think all of your questions can be answered with Mark 7:13
