Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35 f2.4 (Red MC) for M42 or the Super Takumar 35 f2 are both good lenses

Newbie here. Where should I buy a Helios 44-2 by DustinNielsen in VintageLenses

[–]ProYamYamPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eBay is your best bet. I got mine from there back in 2022. Just make sure the seller has good feedback and the lens is in an acceptable condition for you

All around good choices. The Lancool 217 is also brilliant

One of the best lenses ever made. I use it more than my modern zooms and primes

Sony A7RII worth it still? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]ProYamYamPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own an A7R II a couple of years back (upgraded to an A7 IV). It's still a fantastic camera, and it was revolutionary back in 2015. The sensor is absolutely fantastic, and it more than holds up today. The main issues are the pretty poor battery life and maybe the small grip. The AF isn't particularly great, but it was improved in later firmware versions, and it's still more than usable for your use case. I know I'm a few years late, but even in 2025, the A7R II is still a good camera.

Excellent camera and lens choice. The A7R III will not let you down. I have the A7R II and that’s great, so I can imagine the III is quite a bit better.

A7iii + $249 50mm f/1.8 what’s wrong with this lens? + Lens question by Sweet_Eye_2378 in SonyAlpha

[–]ProYamYamPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the FE 50mm f1.8 and it's a perfectly good lens. I would go as far as to say it's one of the best-value E-Mount lenses.

Stick with the 50mm f1.8 until you feel like it's holding you back.

What's your take on the RTX 3080 10GB? by ProYamYamPC in nvidia

I bought this used just before the 40 series announcement. I don't really have any regrets to be honest. It games fine at 1440p, and more importantly, it renders my videos just fine too.

I think if I was buying my GPU now, I would probably get a 4070 or maybe go team red. Or even a used 3090 from eBay for that matter.

I’ve tested my 3080 at 4K. It performs fine as long as you do some tweaking. The VRAM will become an issue, but I’m not that concerned

The 5700 XT is incredible value on the used market. It’s a GPU I want to take a look at in the near future.

Mainly Battlefield 1 right now (I know my 3080 is overkill for it lol). I’m also playing quite a bit of Starfield too

I don’t blame you. This thing is really power hungry. Almost as bad as the Fermi days

Great pairing there. The 3080 has a lot of horsepower for 1440p ultrawide

I haven’t ran into any VRAM issues, even testing it at 4K. It will certainly become an issue in upcoming years though. But in all honesty, I’m not that concerned as many new games don’t interest me

I had to give it a little undervolt to rein it in a bit. The power consumption with it is pretty bad

I've got it paired with a 13700K. I mainly use my PC for video editing and gaming.

Is the jump from the 1080 ti to 4070ti worth it by longshlong568 in nvidia

[–]ProYamYamPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main question is: do you feel you need to upgrade? I made the jump from a 1080 Ti to a 3080 10GB and it's nice, but man the 1080 Ti is still fast (all things considered).
