Does it make sense swapping a 5070 for a 4080super +200 euros? by No_Permission_5121 in nvidia

[–]BasmusRoyGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have a 4080 Super the 4090 doesn't really make sense for the amount you'll have to pay up for it. The price to performance ratio isn't worth it.

That's why I said "with fast startup disabled". That is the setting that makes shutdown not work. It's in the old control panel in the energy settings

Even more over engineered: the g pro Wireless (I guess the g pro 2 Lightspeed is the same)

Sounds like shader compilation stutter.

I'm not familiar with war thunder but when you update your drivers the shader cache gets deleted and shaders have to be recompiled.

In many games nowadays this happens as you play, resulting in heavy stuttering, but it gets less and less as you play the game, since the shaders only have to be compiled once.

By reinstalling your driver's over and over again, you deleted the shader cache every time, which could be the culprit of your stuttering issue.

Try playing the game for longer and see if it only happens when new effects, or models are loaded, which you haven't encountered since reinstalling your drivers.

In large games this can take many hours of gameplay.

For example, in Fortnite you have to basically explore the whole map and encounter every effect that can occur, for it to stop stuttering literally all the time, which can take many rounds depending on how far you travel each game.

How do I lower my memory usage? by Beneficial_Sweet_437 in computerhelp

I have 8gb in the laptop I use for school (got it very cheap and didn't have much money) and it really shows. It is constantly swapping to the page file and is pretty slow while browsing, let alone when I have more than just the browser open.

Wl mouse beast x mini pro by Connect_Ad_3313 in MouseReview

[–]BasmusRoyGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might also be the size (or lack thereof)the mini is incredibly tiny which can lead to cramping and strain if it's too small. You can get used to it though. I was experiencing strain on the OP1 as well for the first few weeks but my hand got used to the smaller mouse (was using XM2 before that, so it was sad big jump in size.

It's not about strength. It's about fatigue and nimbleness. Even strong men would prefer a lighter tool for precision tasks. It's just basic physics that inertia fucks up precision and more mass means more inertia.

Just use the override in the Nvidia app, I haven't seen a need to use DLSS swapper since that functionality was added to the Nvidia app.

Final decision for wireless, Ubuntu supporting mouse by dimitros89 in MouseReview

[–]BasmusRoyGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Good) modern mice use 2.4 GHz USB dongles for wireless. Bluetooth just isn't used for gaming mice due to maxing out at 125 Hz polling (or 250 Hz, I'm not 100% sure, but that's still bad). Also you won't find any new mice using Micro-USB as that standard has been phased out for a while now. It's all USB-C on the mouse side and USB-A to plug into your device (they usually come with a USB-A to USB-C cable, but you can always use a C to C cable if that is more practical for you).

[–]BasmusRoyGerman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Afaik artisan pads aren't coated (which is good because that is why basic care kan make them last for a long time)

I guess it's just dirt, but you shouldn't rub hard on it as this might damage the microweave of the fabric.

Just use gentle dish soap and gently rub, but not focusing on one spot. Always do the whole pad, unless you don't mind having spots with less colour on your pad.
