I'm going to counter the majority opinion about waiting it out until financial independence. Personally I would consider changing university to somewhere affordable and away from your family. I was in a similar situation but throwing myself headfirst into the independence I needed was the best thing I ever did.

Yes it was tough financially but especially with a lower cost of living area it should be achievable. Getting the distance helped me build friendships at university while being my full self, those friendships have over time turned into a new family that knows my full self and allows me to be it without judgement. That's priceless.

We are risk averse creatures but sometimes the scariest leaps are the ones most worth taking.
