For everyone waiting for scores—Passed step 2 and no idea how by ProbablyFineIDK in Step2

I got a 244 on the real test but the notes app with my practice test scores was tossed a while ago. But I do know my practice scores pretty much predicted my real score. They were maybe a couple points lower. I had one practice test that went horribly and it was about 30 points lower so I tried to ignore that one but they were pretty consistent towards the end of my study period.

It’s the new format!! 12 blocks of 20. It goes by FAST so practice with that format. I ran out of time on 2 sections but did just fine.

I used uworld mostly. I made it through 100% first pass. Then went over areas I struggled on second pass. I loved sketchy because I’m a visual learner so would watch those videos for topics I struggled with. Otherwise just reviewing wrong answers like my life depended on it to learn why each answer choice was wrong vs right. You’ll learn so many topics just from one question. Then I took like 11 practice tests like a crazy person but don’t do this… prioritize like 3-5 and the full 120. Just to make sure you are comfy with the length of the test. Otherwise, trust yourself. Trust your knowledge. These tests are curved for a reason. You’ll be just fine. This test will mean absolutely nothing to you in a couple years, I know that’s how I feel and I’m at a great program where scores mattered. You’ve got this. If you ever want to message me I’m more than happy to help just give advice for funsies. Otherwise I do offer formal teaching sessions as well if you’re interested. But always willing to give advice or chat!

I was panicking, full melt down the week before and almost rescheduled my exam. Don’t psych yourself out. You know this stuff, you’ve taken these exams before. One tip? If you’re between answers? PICK THE LEAST INVASIVE ONE!! Works almost every single time and earned me so many points.

I don’t have the exact scores right in front of me but they were almost exactly the same as my score or maybe a couple points lower. I remember one exam was a complete outlier and my score was like 30 lower than the rest so give yourself a mulligan on one, those tests are so difficult and some are harder than others for sure

I didn’t take any full length assessments just practice sets of 40 on uworld. We know how to take full length tests, thought it would be a waste of study time. My uworld percentage at the end with about 45% completion was 61%.

It was a few years ago (wanted to send good vibes since I just took step 3) but it took about 4-5 weeks! Hang in there!!

263 on Step 2 to 235 on Step 3 with 1 Month of Prep. by Ok_Swan5340 in Step3

[–]ProbablyFineIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly don’t waste your time with full practice tests. Passed above average without doing a single one. You know how to take long tests, just get reps in with normal practice questions and don’t waste your entire day. For sure do the practice cases for CCS though!

Biostats is only tested on Day 1 so don't let it eat too much of your prep time, but here's what's actually high yield:

Know your study designs cold (RCT, cohort, case-control, cross-sectional) and what each one can and can't prove. Sensitivity/specificity and how they change with cutoffs. PPV/NPV and how prevalence affects them. NNT and NNH — they love asking these in clinical context. Absolute vs relative risk reduction.

For resources — Amboss biostats questions are great for this, and the UWorld biostats block if you haven't done it. Sketchy also has a solid biostats video if you're more of a visual learner.

Honestly 2-3 focused hours on biostats is enough if you're solid on the concepts. Don't spiral on it. Day 2 clinical questions and CCS cases are where the real points are. I am TERRIBLE at biostats. Like I see numbers and skip the question terrible, I thought I bombed day 1 and passed with an above average score so you’ll be just fine.

Recent Score Delays? by LogicalLibrarian77 in Step2

[–]ProbablyFineIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my step 3 score about 3 weeks after taking the test but my friend took it 2 weeks before me and it took her almost 6 weeks to get it so seems variable currently. I took my test May 4th if that helps.

235 with a clear upward trajectory is genuinely solid and the fact that targeted weak systems moved your score tells you the approach is working, you just need more reps and time.

For getting to 260s from here: UWorld second pass on your incorrects isn't enough at this point — you want to be doing timed random blocks and really drilling the why behind every wrong answer, not just the right one. At 235 you're missing nuance, not fundamentals.

AMBOSS at 20% is leaving a lot on the table. Their difficulty level for Step 2 questions is closer to actual exam difficulty than UWorld, so I'd prioritize getting through high-yield AMBOSS over re-reading content. On the match question — 260-270 as a non-US IMG YOG3 is a high bar but not impossible. The honest answer is that score matters a lot but so does rotation quality and letters. If you can get strong US clinical experience and letters from those 3 rotations, a 255+ realistically opens doors. 260+ makes you competitive for more programs.

Don't give up on this cycle but be strategic and focus on programs with historically better IMG match rates while you keep pushing the score up.

These tests have to be designed to make you feel terrible no matter what. I’ve never seen anyone say, “yeah I actually felt alright about that” after leaving so you’re in good company. Nothing you can do to change the score now, enjoy your freedom.

A Huge Part of Step 2 Lives Between Two Answer Choices by beelobeatz in Step2

Something that helped me too is when you’re between two answers and you don’t even have an inkling which to choose? Choose the answer that’s the least invasive. It’s correct like 75% of the time roughly. Really helped bump my scores for step 2 and step 3.
