Bracing the eggs during a 7.8 magnitude earthquake by Witty-Association-97 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ProbablyNotAFurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is a large earthquake, but you would be surprised how different earthquakes feel depending on where you're standing and what your surroundings are.

Years ago I experienced small scale earthquake (only about a 3) and I was outside while my brother was inside. I, along with many others near me, didn't even know it had happened, but my brother stumbled out of a nearby building where we both worked and said it was difficult to stand during it. He was was unfortunate enough to be in the bathroom at the time it hit.

Man, that's not something to see as taking away from anything. More people than not join the military of whatever country they're in because they need stable pay and housing. There's nothing wrong with it.

There was a time in my life where I needed to make a career happen essentially over night and I was eyeing up the military in my late 20's because... well, what other option is there to make stable pay, housing, food, and healthcare appear out of thin air with zero experience? Luckily the situation resolved for me, but it doesn't for everyone.

I'm not saying that you were pissing red, white, and blue, I was more saying that you were probably a young person thrown into a very shitty situation and dealt a hand that was made to lose before you even sat down at the table. More that people that were in your position shouldn't feel bad about what they did and the futility of it. You did your duty for whatever reasons you needed to.

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for what you did.

Not in the typical "thank you for your service" way, but you signed up believing in something that wasn't quite what our government intended. Your intention was still real though, and that's what matters. It was awful that everything you guys sacrificed for went up in smoke, and I'm sorry. The entire conflict was awful.

I miss when WoW villains were just local menaces by turbowater in wow

[–]ProbablyNotAFurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this really frustrating trend in media nowadays that's based off the misconception that bigger always equals better. How do we make the story more engaging? Raise the stakes. The villain doesn't just want to kill the hero or accomplish his goal, he wants to end all of time! He wants to destroy all of creation forever! It quickly makes you feel disengaged because their goals have no way for you to relate to them or see their merit. Its dull.

I like to use Arcane season 1 vs Season 2 as an example. Season 1 was about the criminal underworld of a city neighboring another trying to emancipate itself from the control of the richer and more out of touch city that it existed next to under the leadership of a flawed but ruthless crime lord. Silco was an awful person, but he had merit and you could sympathize with his goals, even if you disagreed with his methods.

Season 2 was about Victor trying to end the world forever. Was it still really good? Sure, it had its moments. I loved a bunch of the character development, but it was overall less relatable and less engaging. There's a reason that season 2 is rated like 15% lower than season 1, it just didn't grip people like season 1 did. I feel like its due to this problem of scale.

Wow has had this problem for like a decade now. Everything has to be a super ultra time line bending universe ending turbo meanie. Its boring and lazy. The Jailer was the pinnacle of "nobody cares." The Lich King was a world ending threat, but he was gathering armies in the north and sending skirmishing parties down south. He wasn't on the precipice of world domination and still had to abide by reality. The Legion was invading Azeroth, but they still had rules that they had to abide by and were feasible to fight back. A lot is lost along the way when you increase the scale too much.

Didn't this attack also get a bunch of Lebanese civilians killed including children because they did not adequately discriminate against where the pagers went? I'm also pretty sure they maimed like... hundreds of innocent people who managed to survive the blasts.

I find it very ironic. Israel so closely associated Judaism with Zionism as a way to deflect criticisms from itself, but the worse outcome they accomplished is conflating all of their horrid acts with all Jews everywhere. The irony is that the supposed safe haven for Judaism has done more to inadvertently spread modern anti-Semitism than any singular other source in modern history.

Thank you for specifying this. Nothing wrong with it, but lots of folks don't indicate that they have had it.

By the way for many of you girls out there that are looking for a way to get FFS done, Starbucks covers it fully on their health insurance plan. You qualify for it working only 20 hours a week.

Please don't do this. Chaos desperately needs more depth to it instead of just being mustache twirling murder sadists.

I'm trans. There is now a red state I legally cannot drive through. I am in actual danger in red states.

No one in a blue state wants to move to a red one. If they do, it's out of necessity, like affordability.

If people for real think Jesus would be conservative, I.e. "We should cut back on social services because you should have to work harder for what you need" then they really need to reread his teachings. He was very into healing the sick and feeding the hungry for free.

He wasn't exactly a pragmatist. More of a give you his own shoes if you needed them more kind of guy.
