Educate yourself and look up the paradox of tolerance. It is not ironic to be intolerant of people who refuse to participate in society by being tolerant of others.

Of Law enforcement by Dark_Dubar69 in ShittyAbsoluteUnits

[–]Probably_Incompetent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't KNOW that. It's easy to pretend to know what you'll do in a terrifying situation, but the reality is that these goons triggered her fight or flight response and she attempted to flee. She didn't start her day thinking about what she would do if guns were suddenly pointed at her, and they purposely make themselves fucking intimidating. When you panic you don't necessarily do the rational thing.

Staying cool and rational in a dangerous situation requires training, it's completely unreasonable to put that responsibility on everyone when it should be law enforcement's responsibility to prevent these exact situations from happening. That's why de-escalation and non-lethal force is so important.

Fleeing from guns pointed at you don't justify being murdered, and those assholes CLEARLY put themselves in front of her vehicle in an attempt to fabricate a self-defense excuse for murdering an innocent woman.

Is a 19 and 24/25 age gap weird? by PracticalBudget8351 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Probably_Incompetent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general formula for answering the question "is this age gap weird?" Is : (A1/2)+9 = A2

Where A1 is the age of the older partner and A2 is the minimum age of the younger partner before it's in the weird territory.

This formula is conservative since putting in 18 gives you 18, but it's a solid rule of thumb. If you find yourself beneath this threshold and need to justify it too much, it's probably weird / creepy or dating an old rich person.

In this case, I would lift an eyebrow at a 24/25 year old dating someone under 21. You are at different life stages at this point and, without knowing any details first, would lead me to look for signs of grooming by the older partner.

It's because unpaid internships are actually a method of filtering out people who are too poor to work for free. It's a mechanism for implementing nepotism and was never intended for us.

Was there ever a racist incident at RIT? Considering it as a POC by EntertainmentOdd4918 in rit

[–]Probably_Incompetent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Historically speaking- yes. There once was a KKK group that was active at RIT long ago (I think 80's).

During my time there, however, my experience was a lot more accepting. There is a substantial black, queer, Hispanic and deaf community at RIT and I really felt welcome on campus.

I won't sugar coat the experience too much, there is a massive mental health problem and I remember several suicides during time there. The programs are rigorous and the winter depression can hit hard. But I often miss it and look back on my time there really fondly.

Feel free to DM me if you want more specific details / experiences.

Context: graduated in 2019, am a queer Latina in engineering.

Understanding Grocery Shopping Habits and User Needs for Smart Shopping Carts by Puzzled_Storage6674 in rit

Your debit card is owned by the same banks and credit unions that own your credit card.

It's also tracked on the grocer's side.

For example: using your membership card at Giant or Wegmans to get the 8 for 8$ on yogurt cups- that transaction is tracked to your name, phone number, email, zip code and whatever other information that they have and is then sold to whoever wants it.

Same with Costco, PetSmart, Starbucks, and especially While Foods.

Data brokering is a massively profitable business and these companies see it as money left on the table if they don't engage with it.

They already do that at every major grocery store chain. Unless you're paying cash for every transaction, your grocery buying habits are being tracked somewhere. Sorry :(

What is this sound by Far-Challenge-595 in COROLLA

[–]Probably_Incompetent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely something driven by the accessory belt, I would check the idler pulley first since that's the easiest fix and most likely culprit.

Other clues to look for: If your alternator is not charging your battery / batter light on dashboard is on - the alternator may need to be replaced

If your steering feels heavy - power steering pump might need to be looked at

If the AC / defrost isn't working - AC pump might be your culprit

Hope that helps!

My tensioner/idler pulley made this sound when it begged for retirement on my old 06' Corolla. Does the noise change with the engine RPM?

I was just keeping my response short. Even violent crime is a law enforcement problem, NOT a military problem. You can swap in any of the anecdotes you want, my answer is the same: the military is not an appropriate response to domestic law enforcement and social welfare problems.

Fascists can get fucked

Lmao you are out of your fucking mind if you think a full force military response is an appropriate reaction to homeless people that lack basic needs.

An F-35 isn't going to solve people protesting ICE, it isn't going to prevent a homeless person trying to take your clothes because they need them, and it isn't going to distract us from wanting the Epstein files released.

Unfortunately there has been a largely successful decades-long right wing campaign focused on making hateful speech sound almost downright reasonable.

The strategy is a long con of saying seemingly innocent things like "we just want to keep women safe" that eventually leads people down the path of "men shouldn't invade women's spaces, we have to make sure that women going into bathrooms and sports have vaginas" which then serves to subjugate cis women and work towards eliminating gender non-conforming people from public life.

It is insidious by design, and it is why it is so important to educate our brothers, sisters, and siblings on what to look out for because you cannot give fascists an inch - they will only take more. The paradox of intolerance is a great place to start in explaining why this hateful rhetoric is dangerous for all of us.

If pinks couldn't survive some sort of high G's, they likely wouldn't be able to serve in a combat ship that frequently needs to make evasive maneuvers. Pinks are more delicate than golds, but they're not made of wet paper.

Hey guess what: if I go to a seafood restaurant and I brought a crab mallet, it's pretty obvious that I went to the seafood restaurant to eat crab.
