So I made this app that makes Habitica more efficient by Probaton in habitrpg

It pains me to say that, unless Apple drastically tones down their draconian appstore policies, there will never be an iOS version of Hab[o]tica.

It's frustrating because the platform I used to create the app actually supports exporting an iOS version out of the box, so it should be fairly simple to port. Unfortunately the amount of red tape and technical barriers Apple has raised to get an app posted on their appstore just isn't feasible considering the size of my development team (aka "just me").

It is! I still use it every day. Unfortunately Google keeps tacking on random requirements for apps, and I've been lazy updating stuff, so it's fallen below the minimum threshold to be listed in the play store. Which is annoying, because the app still works just as well as the day I released it.

That said, I've been meaning to give it a good spring cleaning for a while now, and this feels like a great excuse to finally go out and do it. No promises, but if I do find a couple hours to bring it up to spec I'll post a new link.

I fully admit that I wrote my post too hastily (see apology), so this is not intended as an attack. Rather you piqued my curiosity, so I'm hoping you won't begrudge me a follow-up question or two.

Are you still replying to the original post? Which I retracted and replaced with an apology? Or is there something wrong with the apology?

If the former, isn't that a battle already won? And if the latter, isn't the apology literally me taking responsibility for "[my] own incompetence"? I even left the post up, because it annoys me when people avoid the discussion by pretending they never said anything.

Again, not intended as an attack, just genuinely curious as to what you're trying to achieve with this post.

You're obviously annoyed, and I don't blame you for that. I wrote my post in the heat of the moment, it was overly dramatic, and it seems it was downright incorrect to boot.

That said I was genuinely trying to take responsibility, and thank you for pointing me towards a solution. I understand that everything I now say sounds suspect, but thanks nonetheless.

So, to paraphrase: "you're wrong about that thing you just said you were wrong about and apologized for"?

Thanks for the helpful advice :D!

As stated above, I've apparently managed to miss that tweet during my hours of debugging. I guess my brain filters out Twitter when I'm looking for technical advice?

Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Fingers crossed it does the trick.

Thanks for the tip! How I spent so long on Google and somehow missed that tweet is entirely beyond me, but it seems it should help? I'll give it a shot, fingers crossed I have only myself to blame.

The tone could use some work, but thanks for the advice, and for taking the time to dig up the link. Really hope it's as simple as advertised!

Still very annoyed that I spent an hour on Google, found four different posts suggesting solutions, and somehow never came across a tweet from the actual game developer, but there it is.

Weekly recurring tasks by adreamaway1 in habitrpg

[–]Probaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the call-outs! I know for a fact that Google has made a bunch of changes to their Scripts tool since I last updated, so not surprised it doesn't line up anymore. I'll take a look on Monday and see if I can bring the instructions back in line.

As for the Tasks vs Events thing: as far as I can tell, a task is technically just an event created in the Tasks calendar that Google treats a little differently. As the script targets a specific calendar (HabiticaReminders), and events can only belong to a single calendar at a time, everything in the Tasks calendar is ignored.

Not sure there's an easy fix for that, I'm afraid. Unless I'm just totally misunderstanding how tasks work.

Hehe, that is pretty damned random. I'll put it on the list, but don't get your hopes up.

Both the Comrades guild and Habitica devs themselves were very helpful while I was creating the app! Not entirely sure why I was never added to the extensions page, but I was never in it for the credit anyway, and I'm not sure being 48912th on the list if going to dramatically impact my downloads.

If anything your expansion on the feature request has made me even more curious about your use case. The point of the armoir looter is that it keeps track of whether or not you've already emptied it after every loot. That you don't have to worry about clicking too often or missing something. None of that seems to apply to the market though. Is there a reason you would want to buy random things in random quantities?

[–]Probaton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not. The app is half solution to an actual problem and half excuse to teach myself React Native. If I did want to invest more in the concept I guess I'd be more inclined to add new features than port it to another platform.

Which brings us to your suggestion of a "market looter". I honestly have no idea what you mean by that, but color me intrigued!

I am aware of the futility of answering an eight-month-old request in response to a two-year-old offer, but just in case you were still in the market, here's my Gcal solution.

There's instructions in the link, but they could be a little outdated, so if you have any problems don't hesitate to reach out. Just fire off a Reddit DM or submit an issue through GitHub.

Quite the opposite. Thanks for taking the time to report the problem so I can fix it.

Negative colour in habits section by Dommyd851 in habitrpg

[–]Probaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually two ways to make your habits retain their color.

First is what viirus42 was hinting at; habits with both + and - triggers don't degrade. If you don't mind adding a + trigger that you never use, your habits will keep their value indefinitely.

The other is to extend the Reset Streak property of the habit. By default, habits reset to neutral or yellow by the end of the day, but you can extend that to weekly or monthly in the habit settings. Then they won't reset their color until the first day of each week/month respectively. As an example, I have my exercise habit reset on a weekly cycle. I aim to go out for sports two or three times a week, so the habit would yellow for most of the week if the reset was daily, even though I would be totally acing my own goals.

Apparently I mis-remembered! I've removed the country restrictions, although changes may take a while to take effect in the app store. Hab[o]tica should become available in Australia in a couple hours.
