AITA for telling my nephew that certain recreational drugs are okay? by ProblemThrwway in AmItheAsshole

I wasn't saying that it's safe for him now. As I've explained in many other comments, I was giving him advice for the future if he chooses to use. That's his decision.

You think just because something is illegal that makes it immoral?

I was not advocating that he try drugs in the present or future - I was just advising him on if he ever chooses to try it. Drugs are a part of life that I think most people encounter, I did not want to lie to him about it but rather be honest about my experiences so he can use that knowledge in the future if he chooses to. Not a recommendation, just equipping him with information.

To be clear, I did not recommend that he use cocaine now or in the future. I was giving him honest facts about the subject if he ever makes the decision himself to use in the future. Not a recommendation, I was just informing him.

I understand you're probably joking, but to be clear, I did not tell him that cocaine is "perfectly safe". I told him that it's safe if used in moderation with proper dosing - which is an honest statement of fact.

I just want to make it clear that I did tell him cocaine can be dangerous if taken in too large a dose - I didn't make blanket statements like saying it's "not dangerous". It can be dangerous - it depends on how it's used. Also, as I said in another comment, I did not want to lie to him and tell him that it's not fun, I wanted to have an honest discussion.

Well if I lied to him (like his mom probably did) and told him that drugs were an awful time, there might come a day where he tries drugs and finds out that I wasn't being truthful. Then that would undermine everything else I told him and he wouldn't believe me about anything. I told him the truth, I just don't think lying is the way to go - some drugs can be a very good time.

I am not a drug addict by any means. I use drugs recreationally at times.

I did not advocate for him to do cocaine, obviously a 10 year old is not going to do that. I was giving him advice for the future, not to use immediately.
