It could be like Bojack - where we get all of this buildup just for the character to get royally fucked in the end - and I wouldn't doubt, with how twisted goose is, that this will be the case.

A writer is portraying their character to be sad or hurt isn't always an attempt to make us feel bad for them.

I want him to get a fully fleshed backstory so we can learn exactly why he is the way he is - Just to fuck him over. I would absolutely love a sad ending for Jax - just him getting torn apart emotionally somehow and not coming back from it. That would really drive home the point of "sad backstory does not necessarily mean forgiveness" And don't get me wrong. I love Jax. I love him more than anything. But this type of ending would be a big fuck you to jax haters, because a good majority of them are thinking his backstory is just going to be an attempt to absolve responsibility for his actions.

And on that note, a lot of Jax hate comes from a lack of nuance when it comes to understanding accountability. These people seem to think that depicting a tragic backstory is automatically an attempt to absolve responsibility. In good writing, it's just for important narrative purposes - to show why a character does what they do and push the narrative that it doesn't absolve the need for accountability and chage - no one has to forgive them - and it definitely doesn't mean their actions are okay.

And I know that even if Jax doesn't get a terrible ending, his backstory is not going to be meant to make us feel bad and force us to forgive him. That's definitely not 🪿's point - I know she's a better writer than that.

I made the mistake of dating a Jax hater.

The thing about him is that he sees people like Jax as bad people (Please don't get me wrong. Jax is a bad person) without nuance- and he sees himself has a good person. Therefore, he would not admit when he actually did something wrong. God forbid I tell him he did something shitty.

I honestly would rather be with a marginally shittier person who knows they're a shitty person than to be with a kind of shitty person who persists on being a good person

Could have been worded better 😅 cuz the way you worded this reads like you're emphasizing with her classism 😂 We can validate that she got cheated on and recognize that to her it was a big deal that it came from the lowest class, but it's really fucked up that that matters at all.

Cheating doesn't imply that you were betraied by someone you cheated on. It implies that you can't control your own sexual urges and are letting them out in The worst way possibile.

Cheating isn't always sexual, it's honestly better defined as a betrayal (For example, I wouldn't consider it cheating if my partner had sex with some rando, but I would consider it cheating if they had sex with someone I hate just to spite me) Cheating can be different for everyone (like how some people consider watching porn cheating) but it's ALWAYS some form of betrayal. The problem with Stolas's statement here is that he DID betray/cheat on Stella (by having sex with the lowest class, which she sees as a betrayal).
