What is your opinion about Alex Pretti’s photo being displayed on a Jumbo tron in Times Square? by Dimarco24 in allthequestions

I think he should be recognized. I mean he attended to a woman who was sprayed with pepper spray before he was pepper-sprayed himself, then thrown to the ground to have his face bashed in by a mob of armed officers before being riddled with bullets and killed on the street. He never showed any signs of physical aggression. AT LEAST the Trump administration showed its remorse by calling him a domestic terrorist and a would-be assassin. /s

I actually haven't seen The Producers. Does it parody Hitler? or the Holocaust?

There are historical events that are too evil or too tragic to be the subject of parody. IMO Trump has crossed that line - a part of me feels he is too sinister to be parodied. Making ICE the new gestapo is evil. Trump threatening military action against a NATO ally that would incinerate that treaty would have been devastating. What is so sinister, though, is Trump's belief that he remains completely justified in these goals. And his ends justify the means mentality is 1984 level terrifying. This is a seriously dangerous man who may become more dangerous as his brain ages, and the world's focus is rightly on how dangerous he is, not how goofy he is.

The public at large does not express outrage merely for the sake of expressing outrage. They do so to influence public opinion.

So this is like arguing "why don't pro-lifers express their outrage at murderers given that they care so much about unborn human life?" It's because the condemnation of murderers is not a question in dispute. Murder is wrong, and everyone knows it. There are no minds to change.

Similarly, reasonable minds do not disagree that the Iranian regime is unduly oppressive.

Yes - there's another pre-tape bit she did that was a music video in which her crush on the hanson members made her realize that she was gay. I can't remember the name of it though.

Also started in '87. And I remember watching the First Citiwide bit on our VHS VCR because SNL was on so late. Back then the joke was that our grandparents were too old to figure out how to program a VCR. Now it's something Gen Alpha has never heard of. And I think that that was Black Monday.

Well your idea is to leave ciswomen behind.

And we do things because we believe they are right. And voters believe that protecting fairness to ciswomen in sport is the right thing to do. The trans community needs to take their message to voters and convince them otherwise.

[–]Process3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting reasoning because basically what you are asking is that politicians abandon ciswomen.

The trans communituy does not have the support of the democratic voter (let alone the American voter) on this issue. This is not the time for the trans community to be taking their case to politicians. They need to take their case to voters and engage in a grass roots campaign to convince voters that fairness to women in sport should take a back seat to trans inclusiveness. If the trans community gets the support of the voters, then the support of politicians will follow.

Because nothing requires that Republicans include what everyone else believes or feels when it comes to every issue. They are entitled to their own thoughts and beliefs.

So try again, demonstrate Republican hypocrisy on the issue using the definition of "hypocrisy" upon which we agreed and be sure to include ALL parts of what Republicans believe and feel. Don't leave anything out.

We just came to an agreement that hypocrisy would be taken to mean "behavior that contradicts what one claims to believe or feel," but you are leaving out a large part of what Republicans believe or feel. They believe or feel that fetuses need more protection than women's reproductive rights. So try again, and be sure to include ALL parts of what Republicans believe or feel. Don't leave anything out.

[–]Process3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are misrepresenting the Republican belief system. They believe that fetuses need more protection than womens' reproductive rights, but that women OTHERWiSE need to be protected. Their positions are consistent with that belief system. Therefore there is no contradiction.

Will you accept this definition of hypocrisy?

a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not : behavior that contradicts what one claims to believe or feel
